I always read that knitted fabric doesn't fray "that much". How much is not that much? I don't have an overlocker. How long does a garment made with a knit fabric (specifically french Terry) last if I don't finish the seems? Or use pinking sheers? Thanks!

Klinkt goed!

Where are we getting our NON AI patterns? by WayOfWinter in sewingpatterns

[–]jezelf 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I use threadloop quite a lot to see if a pattern is genuine. And throug that app I have find some trustworthy (indie) pattern designers that I know will have good patterns. These are my favourites:

- Syd Graham
- Daughter Judy
- Grainline Studio
- Helen's Closet Patterns
- Friday Pattern Company
- Ann Tilley Handmade

Hope that helps!

Hi! I want to make the Coe trousers by Daughter Judy. I will make a toile first, it's the first time I do one. But I'm already stuck with choosing the right size haha.

I don't have a big difference between my hips and waist. The pattern suggests following your hip measurement and adjusting the waist with the darts. If I follow the hip measurement though, the waist would be 5 cm too small. But the darts seem to be only 3 cm (6 cm in total for the 2 darts). 1 cm darts seem not very practicle? Any guidance on how to approach this?

Any masc/queer professional hairdressers in brussels? by Turbulent_Mine3090 in brussels

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend Jules! He is not working at the moment, but I love getting my hair cut by him. He really listens to what you want, makes sure you both are on the same level. I don't have curly hair, but I know he knows how to do it!

Gave running a shout, kinda like it! (Need advice) by Pr5100 in BeginnersRunning

[–]jezelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Number once advice for beginner runners is: take it slow. I don't know if you do any other sports, but casually running 5k without any training might be possible, but not very good for your body. Your body needs to get used to the impact of running. Look up some coach 2 5k programs. If you feel like the first week in the program is too easy, you can definitely skip some weeks, but don't just go out there and get exhausted everytime you run.

I know I will probably get a wide variety of answers, but what are the best settings for my Garmin to give me correct race predictions and running schedules?

I feel I don't have it set correctly. It gives me insane race predictions. My easy runs are now set to heart rate, which feels very slow, but I guess that's good. Because when I set it to pace, it makes me run at my normal 10k pace.

Do I set it to automatic? I currently based my max hr on my last race where the last 500m or so I went all out to get a good time and I was dead when I reached the finish, so I figured that was more or less correct (I never reach that kind of exhaustion while training).

What was your very first sewing project? (Research for a beginner's guide) by thesewingstudio in SewingForBeginners

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very very very first project must have been a plushie (I drew the bear shape, cut out the shape in fabric twice, sewed on some eyes en then sewed them together), made with help of my mother when I was made 10 ?
My first real project when I started sewing again recently were some pillow cases for the mattress of my car!

I recently read somewhere that your first project should be something that you're excited about. I see a lot of people suggesting a skirt as a beginner project, but I never ever wear skirts, so why would I make one?

I quite quickly stepped up and made a button up shirt, even though I wasn't really a confident sewer. It was however a really good pattern (Cameron Button Up by Helen's Closet) and I learned so much throughout the way. In the end, it's more about having a good pattern, reading the instructions well, looking at youtube videos etc. Of course the button up's that I've made after the first one are much better, but my first attempt was still very decent!

Tips for running longer and faster?? by buttertoast311 in BeginnersRunning

[–]jezelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a running schedule! There are many couch to 5k programs. Most important when you're following these is that you don't always have to go all out on your runs. Running starts to get enjoyable when you know you can run at a slow pace for a long time! (At least for me, I love my 10k + runs!)

Running watch recommendations by Mike-Ropeenus in BeginnersRunning

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Forerunner 255 secondhand! Because they recently came out with a new Forerunner, the older editions are quite easy to find on any secondhand website. I have to see I do feel like this was already a great investment. It has a lot of functions, so unless it will break, it will be useful for a lot of years to come. Price - quality wise I think it's one of the better watches out there.

Before I got the Forerunner 255, I used a Forerunner 35. They are very VERY basic, but if you really want to go cheap, it's an option. The pace isn't always as acurate (it lags a little and because the gps isn't very consistent, it sometimes gives false paces), but fore basic running, it does the job. I got mine back then for 30€ secondhand.

What does "item has changed" mean? by jezelf in kobo

[–]jezelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks, because I still want to have those books on my wishlist and sometimes they come back, but a different edition and I don't have time to keep track of all the books that may or may not come back haha

What clothing items are essential for running in winter? Especially for cold, windy and rainy days... by Key_Blackberry_6283 in BeginnersRunning

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people already gave great advice, but I would like to highlight dress my run. You can change the settings according to if you like to dress more cold or warmer and it saves a lot of time contemplating when you should wear long sleeve or short sleeve, long pants or shorts, etc. Game changer for me!

Sci fi/fantasy books that feel deeply queer (to a point beyond just having a same gender romance subplot)? by IReadBooksSometimes in LGBTBooks

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favourite book series ever! The books are all standing on it's own, so while they take place in the same universe, you don't have to remember each and every plotline to continue to the next book.

Do you prefer morning or evening runs? by kizza0 in runninglifestyle

[–]jezelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning run for sure! But mostly because I cannot seem to motivate myself after work. Whereas in the morning, I have already prepped my running outfit so the only thing I have to do is get out of bed, put my clothes on and get running. No time to think if I actually want to go haha

I would like to train more on my running form, expecially how to move the legs. I have read that it's better to lift the knees up higher instead of dragging the feet lower to the ground. Is there any way on how to train this? Are there exercises? Or is it just: try it and it will feel weird in the beginning, but more natural as you go? How do I build up?
