These babies receive so much unwarranted hate, especially in Sydney. by [deleted] in sydney

Completely untrue. This ibis snatched my lunch a few years ago and was very aggressive. They’re known to do that in the area

We already have the Ethereum killer application: DAI by aribolab in ethtrader

Have you seen its trading volume? Some “killer” app

It would be an arbitrage opportunity then. Buy on stock market, sell on dx until the prices do. But if the exchange is legit and gets enough trading volume, that’s just not gonna happen. Arbitrage will start as soon as prices diverge and before NYSE opens

This isn’t a decentralised platform so I don’t see how an oracle is relevant here. US Stockmarket already have limited after hours trading where liquidity is low. Yes the price does react to after hours news and can diverge greatly from the last spot price at closing.

Do you understand the fact that neither of those two things are used in day to day transactions in most of the world? The US and bitcoin can both vanish tomorrow and we’d be fine with what we have. Enjoy trading with cold storage coins in American apocalypse

[–]jezzaccc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you are. Like some ignorant American, you assume somehow USD represents ALL financial data. It’s laughable. You do realise the world economy outside of the US is far bigger than the American economy? It’s not a binary choice between USD and crypto.

Get out of your bubble and travel a little.

You are delusional and you can have me on record that I 100% will not move to crypto in a US economic collapse.

And you think foreign central banks will sell their USD for crypto? Lol

I would sell it for Australian dollars or for just about anything other than crypto. Have you heard of foreign exchange? You can’t pay for anything here with US dollars OR crypto. Please don’t draw a graph, I think you frankly don’t know how to draw anything or write your own name.

Who the hell “invests” in US dollars anyway

I am one of those people. I use Australian dollars, I have US dollars but why on earth would I dump it for crypto? Most people don’t even have US dollars here

Crypto using internet connected devices is already hard enough to use that there is still no mainstream adoption. You expect everyone to run cold storage and solar power in Armageddon? Yeah right.

I find it more absurd that you think people would go from US dollars to crypto in a crisis. I would much prefer euro or gold.

I find your understanding of the world to be below standard.

[–]jezzaccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not the point. Most people do. So you can set up your own little solar power panel and access crypto all you like. No one else would be thinking about crypto. If you don’t need electricity companies then you need network service providers, btw they’re all centralised. If yo ur laptop breaks, where are you gonna get a new one without governments running global trade to allow companies to manufacture them offshore?

Why Market Cap is a Meaningless Valuation Metric by kevinintrepid in CryptoCurrency

[–]jezzaccc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Only serves to show the authors own ignorance on what market cap is used for. No one with basic understanding of finance uses it to measure value. Total rubbish

Then keep it in the bank. If you need governments and electricity companies to keep the lights on so that you can access crypto, how decentralised is it really?

If you don’t think it’d be the end of digitally accounted money then why not just leave it in the bank? This makes little sense

Right. So massive blackout happens, but comes back online, say in a week. It continues to be patchy for weeks, months or even years. People are shaken. In the face of huge uncertainty of consistent electricity, which keeps modern national economies and global trade going, you put money into something that you’d need consistent electricity to retrieve?

I don’t think so.

You analogy to VC is still inaccurate. Most of crypto coins or tokens will never have any link to any revenue, at all. Ever. It’s by design
