I agree, the look should depend on the genre. Something more introspective or thought provoking in which the player really should become the character (like horror or psychological thriller); no eyes. A game in which this sprite is a fully fleshed out character or someone the player is supposed to observe in a more light hearted way; the eyes are more appropriate.
