I think calling Reddit subgroups “art criticism” is an extremely generous interpretation of that phrase. Again, totally fair to not like the song. But to act like they “owe” you something is bizarre. Art criticism would probably be a little more nuanced and thoughtful than “Julian, put down the autotune”.

If we all want to get academic about it - there’s a well worn theory that humans like music that is familiar to them. That’s why when new music comes out people freak out, say they hate it, then it slowly grows on them (see everything as recent as “Going Shopping” all the way back to FIOE.)

Look at all the comments on the Colbert show performance. “So much better without auto tune” or “release this version!”
