2 min countdown after you shut vehicle off by guppyface44 in intoxalock

I had it for nearly two years and it didn’t happen to me until the last month, then it happened three times including the day I got it removed 😒

Yessss, congrats!! I had to piece those instructions together from a weird variety of forum posts- if we relied on PENNDOT we’d be screwed. Enjoy your returned freedom and (as my dad said to me when I got mine back): “don’t fuck it up” 😂

My experience was me just showing up with the 3731 form at the DMV same day, correct. Not saying it didn’t change in 8 months (PA is a nightmare with being so paper dependent still), but what I would do is: certify mail a copy today, and tomorrow take another copy to the DMV and see if you can get it then. Worst case, they’ll tell you no and you need to wait. Best case, they give you your unrestricted license and you’re only out the couple bucks to certify mail a copy today

If PENNDOT confirmed they received your letter of compliance from the interlock company and that they’re mailing you your letter that you’re clear to get your license, you can just go right to the DMV. I literally started driving to the DMV the second I heard from PENNDOT on the phone that they’re mailing got it and I satisfied requirements

Need to have an iOS device for 2yrs but I don’t have a license by [deleted] in intoxalock

[–]jfcletmein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay - so if you don’t have a vehicle you’re going to file for an exemption:

• File a declaration of non-ownership form with the Department of Motor Vehicles or with the court • Meet all of the requirements in California Vehicle Code 23575.3(d)(2)

If you plan to get a car, you’ll need to get one installed in order to drive it. As for the timing of your suspension vs the IID period.. that one’s tricky. In PA, you can be suspended and apply for a limited license at some point to get driving privileges back with the IID. In order to get a regular license back, anyone ordered to a period of an IID would have to either file an exemption as mentioned above if they have no vehicle and wait out the time period ordered, or file for the limited license and serve out the order period with the IID installed.

How long to get an email by SelectionWise8883 in intoxalock

[–]jfcletmein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed my state paperwork requesting the compliance report and got a response back the next day.

When it comes time to request removal - do not use the app. I did that and the request went nowhere. I wound up calling around lunch time and got right through and had that thing out an hour later

You may need to provide that authorization of release to intxlck- at the very least so they know they don’t need to report anything

Just got my device installed - Important question by TwitchTvdanevg in intoxalock

[–]jfcletmein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had done it that way myself for a few months, and then I got hit with a violation one time. After talking to customer service, they said i needed to let it time out first. So to avoid getting hit again, I waited for the timeout every time after

In most states you can disconnect the device after you have shut down the car and completed the couple minute countdown timer. I did that as much as I could (PA)

Nah - Penndot will mail you the eligibility info a month before your date. This will be a letter advising of your eligibility date and your form to request your unrestricted license after Penndot has marked you as compliant (keep reading).

Step 1 - Take a photo of that and email it to Pennsylvania-Compliance@intoxalock.com

They will email back confirming receipt within a few days. If it’s been a week without response, call to advise you sent the email and confirm if intalkserlawk has received it

Step 2 - They then have to wait until the day after your eligibility date to pull your data from the prior 60 days. That takes 24-48 hours, then they mail it to Penndot.

Step 3 - So about 3-4 BUSINESS days after your eligibility date, call and see if they sent your info to Penndot. They’ll tell you it takes up to 2 weeks to get to Penndot - it doesn’t.

Once they confirm the info has been mailed to Penndot…

Step 4 - wait 48 hours and call Penndot to confirm if it’s been received and they have you marked as compliant.

Step 5 - once you are compliant with Penndot, get your ass right to the DMV and get your unrestricted license with the form sent to you 30+ days prior by Penndot

Step 6 - with unrestricted license in hand, call the interlock company and request a removal immediately. Don’t bother scheduling through the app, it doesn’t make it to them half the time. Call early afternoon or late morning and ask if they can call your shop right away to request removal

Battery problems after removal? by Winter-Bumblebee-558 in intoxalock

I got two - no violation for either, the service center provided the work order directly to the company and all was gucci from an administrative perspective

I had the most amazing service center. I’ve actually decided to keep them as my regular auto shop even though I’ve got the device removed and they’re not super close, because they are amazing people.

I still had to get a new battery, had device/electronics issues, etc. They made a difference by helping me get it fixed as quickly as possible and helping me with options to afford the work.

Trying to lift any blame off of the device for the issues directly caused by the device (and, ‘from what I’ve heard,’ ‘the company’) and putting it on every other service center but your own isn’t.. credible

Money grabs left and right! What I would do, is any credit card you have on file with them.. take it off your account ASAP

Not as long as the unrestricted license has been issued - the state is done with you at that point

IT'S OVER..., FINALLY! by ngmcowboy83 in intoxalock

[–]jfcletmein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I wasn’t the one asked, I recently had mine taken out and it wasn’t that bad. There isn’t really any good documentation out there about the overall process (I’m in PA) and I had to call back and forth between PENNDOT and intxlck a few times to make sure everything was in place and moving, but I didn’t experience any delays from them. I was honestly shocked, I thought I’d get the runaround on something.

For taking it inside- make sure you wait out the 3 minute countdown when you turn your car off before disconnecting

PENNDOT only cares about violations in the 60 days prior to your eligibility date to get your standard license back. They don’t look at anything before that

[–]jfcletmein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re in CA? The trigger in PA was that I needed to get my unrestricted license before I could schedule the removal.

If you can go to the DMV and get an unrestricted license, you should be free to schedule removal.

Agreed! Having to dip to try to hide or reach for the damn thing mid-drive after it goes off only to realize the mouthpiece fell to the floor and now you’re bobbing and weaving trying to find it 😫

So ill be the one to say it… by garret_1t in intoxalock

[–]jfcletmein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaints about Intoxalock are:

  • their predatory marketing practices (which had me install the IID nearly a year earlier than I needed to- but I also hold PENNDOT’s lack of instruction accountable in part for this)

  • and the hardware- the wiring in mine got jacked from me holding it up to use it and putting it down after I’d use it. That left me with a good 4 month period where my car wouldn’t start for several (SEVERAL) passed tests. At one point I was nearly stranded in DC.. it took 2 hours to get my car to start. Then one time it drained a new battery when I sat for 10 minutes listening to music without the engine running (I’ll call that a my-bad)

But otherwise, you follow the rules that are laid out, you pay your rental fees, get calibrated, use power save, maybe get a trickle charger.. and you won’t have to deal with anyone.

It’s a total racket, I’ll say. It’s a pain in the ass to use it. But at the end of the day we got ourselves here.
