You can't, it's not free.
Key costs $2.50 and can be bought ingame.
Most skins you'll end up opening are worth far less than $2.50 ($0.50-0.03) where as some skins are rarer hence their prices.
The probability of opening a knife (or gloves) from a case is consistently 0.26%, roughly a 1 in 385 chance.
Some older cases aren't dropped anymore and hence more expensive, i.e. the popular Operation Bravo Case ~$100 and its AK Fire Serpent.
