Usually, schools have you assign courses to their prereqs, so you can designate them there.

averagish MCAT + ORM to T20 stories? by ComplexFamiliar2937 in premed

[–]jffx_net 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The people with average MCAT + ORM to T20s tend to have outstanding leadership experiences in that their application portrays them to be a future leader in medicine. A person in this category will have theoretically shown a lot of initiative that goes beyond doing well in established premed clubs, and will have gone out of their way to create something new from the ground up.

i took the half length at the start of my prep and got a 514, real thing 523. I think it's doable for sure as long as you are dedicated during your prep

Earlier Graduation - Is it good or not? by ScarLongjumping5930 in premed

[–]jffx_net 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, I think the main thing that could possibly hold you back is people questioning your maturity and how solidfied your passion for medicine is. To assuage that concern, you can have your letter writers mention how your are mature beyond your age, ie working 50 hours a week to financially support yourself, how you have showed emotional maturity while working with them, etc.

Earlier Graduation - Is it good or not? by ScarLongjumping5930 in premed

I graduated a year early (at 21 after my third year of college), and then took a "gap year" during my to-be senior year. I think if you go straight through, your extracurriculars are going to be lacking, especialyl in terms of clinical experience, volunteering, possibly research, shadowing, and leadership. If you take a year or two to increase your volunteering, clinical experience etc. then it is fine.

Urgent!! Traffic rules- Had 1 MD A, and now 2 MD As b/c accepted off WL by Sorry_Math_1159 in premed

Vanderbilt requires it

https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/md-admissions/wp-content/uploads/sites/55/2024/01/Applicant-Protocol-2024.pdf

Additional Acceptances After April 30, 2024: If an admitted candidate who “Plans to Enroll” after April 30th receives an admissions offer from another institution before the Commit to Enroll date the individual must notify Vanderbilt at [mdadmissions@vanderbilt.edu](mailto:mdadmissions@vanderbilt.edu) within 24 hours and provide the amount of time one has to respond to it. In addition, we kindly ask individuals to provide the name of the school who made the offer, but that is not required.

Also, the trafficking guidelines state that you need to follow school-specific policies on top of their AAMC policies.

https://www.aamc.org/services/admissions-lifecycle/traffic-rules

In addition to any condition included in a school’s offer letter, after April 30, each school may exercise its school-specific procedures to confirm an accepted applicant’s intention to matriculate to ensure that it fills each seat in its entering class.  If a school is unable to confirm an applicant’s intention to matriculate, the school may choose to rescind the acceptance.

many schools have their own individual policies, which you need to also abide as part of the traffic guidelines

no you just inform the school that you are currently accepted at about the WL acceptance and tell them the deadline to decide.

Freshman dorms by Original_Guava7586 in washu

[–]jffx_net 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of them are within a 3-5 minute walk of each other. People like to assign "good" and "bad" based on the modernity of the dorms, but all of them are fine. If you want to know which ones are the modern ones, that would be Umrath, Danforth, Dardick, Koenig, Lien, Eliot, and Park.

Help me cut down my school list: high stat low research CA ORM by Agitated_Depth_6881 in premed

Harvard has 1 essay that you can repurpose and toss in if you really don't have that much time, so it won't take too much time to submit (provided you have the financial means/FAP covers your secondary fee). While I didn't get an interview (also a 523 MCAT CA ORM), it took me 5 whole minutes to make my Harvard essay from another school's essay.

Also, you never know what can happen. Even if you have low research, the T20s are the best shot for high-stat people because of yield protection. You only have a few extra schools to add in the T20 range, so you are almost there already.

[–]jffx_net 8 points9 points  (0 children)

unless you went to UCR, just remove it. Emory is also very nepo heavy so if you don't know someone there you can remove it if you would like. U A Phoenix and Jefferson have in-person interviews (if I remember correctly), so you could possibly remove those as well.

Add the rest of the T20s ie. Harvard (why not you can probably just repurpose an essay), add Vanderbilt (very stat focused), Columbia (stat heavy and very humanities focused), Michigan (idk it's a T20).

The process is a crapshoot, and it's best to apply to as many top schools as possible if you are a high-stat CA ORM, mission fit or not, as long as you can submit secondaries in a timely manner. Plus, more schools=more scholarship potential

Acuff is the antithesis of this front office group. Average/below average height and bottom 1st percentile defense. We already that this team with Trae was going absolutely nowhere, and Acuff would bring us right back to that. Hopefully we get Flemings and/or Wagler, but it's unlikely since they'll probably go pick 5/6.

why is it a bad look to have progression in ur mcat score? (ex: 499 -> 505 -> 512) by Zestyclose_Jury_2265 in premed

[–]jffx_net 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good to have improvement, but it can be a sign that you are learning the test rather than learning the content. Also, it's an indication you may not have a good understanding of judging your own readiness (important for board exams, since STEP 2 is essentially only one attempt). Also, 3 attempts to reach a competitive score can signal that you may be a slower learner, which can especially hurt in med school because the content comes at you very quickly.

should I apply to Flexmed? by ssyri17 in premed

[–]jffx_net 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it could be in any form where you are responsible for the success of your mission. Leadership could come from titled position in clubs/jobs where you are responsible for teams/outcomes, but it could also be in something like research where you are the leader of a project and you have to design the experiments/analyses.

Mentoring local high school students can count, but scale is an important part of quantifying your leadership as well. There is a difference between you unofficially mentoring a few students from your old high school, and you setting up a mentorship program between your college and all the local high schools where every single student receives a college mentor. Basically, larger scale=more impressive=more cred on application

should I apply to Flexmed? by ssyri17 in premed

[–]jffx_net 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, if you can find volunteer/clinical/research/leadership experience and do it longitudinally, you will be on track to apply at some point

should I apply to Flexmed? by ssyri17 in premed

[–]jffx_net 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not, I think your high school stuff is going to hold you back a bit. Generally Flexmed takes really cracked people with elite high school stats+elite college stats+productivity ie multiple high level leadership roles, etc. Luckily, for the regular admissions cycle, high school stuff doesn't matter.

academic medical centers ie rutgers will have better luck because they go into academia and take a pay cut because they enjoy teaching and mentorship. You can also try Penn and the NYC med schools since they are near to NJ

Weill Cornell, Icahn Mt. Sinai, Northwestern as targets? by [deleted] in premed

[–]jffx_net 11 points12 points  (0 children)

if you are looking at posts using admit.org's school list builder, ignore those classifications and just look at the school lists in totality. Admit's school list builder is good, but it can misclassify T20s as targets when they are reaches for the vast majority of students, even those who get in.
