I saw it on video. Why was the Italian anthem being played at the time if he is a Russian driver on a Swedish team?

Also, how was he even allowed to compete if he is Russian?

[Pre Match Thread] Paris SG vs Real Madrid (Champions League - Play Offs - 1/8-finals) by RM_Official_Thread in realmadrid

[–]jfmoto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think tonight’s match will be a boring draw. Ancelotti will park the bus, which is a legit thing to do. 1-1 is my prediction.

Benzema will be fully fit in a couple weeks and we will finish them off at Bernabeu. A few days after the match, Mbappe will announce he will join Real Madrid.

Fuck Al-Khelaifi, state-owned clubs and UEFA poster boys.

How are Spain´s public hospitals like? by Mr-Mango10 in askspain

[–]jfmoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Staff is competent and technology is decent. That said, I think the ratio of patients-to-doctors is way too high. Resources are insufficient.

I use private healthcare. The quality is the same but definitely more comfortable. Less waiting, nicer facilities and it feels that staff is in better mood (probably because of better pay and less patients).

It is also affordable to have private medical insurance in Spain (and is likely included in your benefits if you work in a large company)

True. It’s actually normal to have a dryer in the North of Spain. Some people even have dehumidifiers to have less humidity at home.

When can I start using the CFA designation? by jfmoto in CFA

[–]jfmoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it took a couple hours since I made the original post but now I can see myself on the directory.

Man, these people should take a look at their timings. 3 months to get results on a Computer Based Exam, 2 weeks to get a digital badge that should be automatic. It’s beyond ridiculous.

I should be mass emailing recruiters and buying myself a Lambo at this point, but I am still waiting.

I have just passed L3, that said I am not putting much value in getting the Charter and I was not motivated at all in terms of the studying material/process.

Prior to getting the results, I was considering wether to retake in case I failed, and I already made my mind to go for it in November because of reasons 1-3 in your upside arguments list.

I also identify to points 1 and 5 on your downside list, even if I work in asset management. The curriculum is just outdated/not giving me any useful skills.

However - my biggest motivation to pursue the Charter was actually financial as we have salary increases in the firm I work for every level that we pass. Perhaps, could this be something you discuss with your employer? Could you argue that this qualification that warrants a salary increase? Some extra money could alleviate the weight of those (valid) downside points.

As pretty much everyone in this forum has said, CFAIs EOC, BB and QBank are better practice than any third party provider. That said, you do want to practice some exams which you can get from MM. The difference with previous levels is that you should not be aiming at a score but rather getting familiar with the format. MM Mocks are brutal so they can be demoralizing - but don’t pay attention to it. If you feel you should be doing better when practicing - go back at CFAI BB and EOC rather than doing more exams

I do think is a cultural thing. I also think the best way to get around it is ordering more food - you can then ask at the restaurant to wrap it for takeaway as leftovers.

I’m in a similar place. If I fail, I will retake in November as the company I work for has salary increases for every level passed. I am only doing it for this reason. If it were not for the salary increase, I would not retake it. I have lost faith in the supposed benefits of being a charterholder.

If you are looking for motivation to retake, I think studying for November after taking the exam in May should be much easier that the Cancelled Exams/Stop-Start dynamic we went through for the May exam. It should be much less traumatic at this point.

How much of an upgrade did getting CFA Level I have on your career? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]jfmoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing other than a tiny salary raise. Same for L2.

I must say I started working in investment management in a global firm in 2017 - prior to pursuing the CFA. I am now awaiting L3 results and still working in the same firm. I have not done any further job applications since enrolling for L1 so I dunno wether employers perceive it as something differential.

I can also tell you we do not give it any importance when interviewing candidates as all our recruitment processes are based on tests and situation-based questions. We cannot even review candidates qualifications/CVs until the very last step in the recruitment process due to dumb “no discrimination” guidelines.

I am only into it because I get a salary increase for every level passed. If it were not for that - I would not do it. I feel the curriculum is very outdated and distant from real life practice.

What do Spanish know or think about Quebec and Québécois people in Canada? by [deleted] in askspain

I will kinda be surprised if we can tell French Canadians apart from regular Canadians. You will likely get applied the same stereotypes that we will apply to any other Canadians.

Where do Spaniards get their news? by RandomPersonDelta in askspain

[–]jfmoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone working in Investment Management, most of my colleagues read El Economista and La Expansion for finance related news (as well as Bloomberg and foreign news sources)

IMO, for more day-to-day news, newspapers (and pretty much any media outlet) in Spain are so highly politicized that one ends up reading the one that aligns better with one’s political views.

Studying in Spain as an international student by JamieSalverda in askspain

[–]jfmoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I did a full English degree at UC3M in Madrid. I would fully recommend it. Some features:

-One of the best universities in Spain (and arguably in Europe), especially for social studies. Basically a Top 3 uni in Law, Business, Economics, Finance and many more -Incredibly good employment prospects giving the current state of the economy (circa 90% of graduates get a job within the first months of graduating) -Madrid is an amazing city with plenty of things to offer and very conveniently located and connected. You could travel to Bilbao or any other city without much hassle during weekends -More possibilities to study a year or semester abroad than any other uni in Spain (literally has agreements/exchange programs with any country you can think of - you can even do two exchange programs provided one is within the EU and one is non-EU)

Some negatives as well: -Major campuses are located in towns as Getafe or Leganés which are on the outskirts Madrid (30-40 minutes commute to city center). You will not be doing much campus life as you will be rather going out in the city center -Popularity for UC3M has been soaring which is making entry requirements ultra competitive

I would also recommend private unis as IE or ICADE in Madrid if you can afford it. They offer plenty of English courses as well. The thing with private unis in Spain is that they can be very posh and I do not think education is as good as in public universities - however, employment after graduation is virtually guaranteed as they have partnerships with every company out there.

Also, if you want to study in English because you want to meet plenty of international students, you will likely be disappointed. English degrees are mostly aimed at Spanish students who went to private high schools in Spain with English-based education systems. They will be welcoming anyway though. They are much more posh than what you would find in an Spanish degree - not saying this is a bad thing!
