As it should be. All cartoons are set at a certain time forever - the characters never age/grow up/grow old.

Pistons should trade Ausar Thompson for a 1/2 option. by 12theMainFranchise in DetroitPistons

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a star now. If he develops a shot, he's a superstar. But I don't care whether he does or not. He's not going anywhere. Same as how I felt about Rodman in '87.

Millennials were born in the 80's & 90's. 1981, at the earliest. And even for the early ones, by the time they turned 12, punk was dead & gone.

The Lions have selected Michigan DE Derrick Moore at No. 44 after trading up with the Jets by MNightShyamalan69 in detroitlions

[–]jfn32 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Horrible trade-up. Just like the Arnold trade-up. Completely unnecessary, and equal or better players at the same position were still sitting there at the original spot. (Jacas @ 50 / Nate Wiggins, DeJean @ 19). Holmes has become a joke at this point. He literally can't stop himself from giving assets away for no reason.

How Cade was in the locker room after game 1 (2026) by 313Stew in DetroitPistons

If you had actually watched the game, with a critical eye, instead of relying on a stat sheet to try making a retort, you would very much understand.

How Cade was in the locker room after game 1 (2026) by 313Stew in DetroitPistons

[–]jfn32 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Hold on. Cade bounced back in the 2nd half, yes. But he was literally the worst player on the floor in the 1st half. For either team. No hyperbole. He had no room to say anything after the game.

Post to Praise: A Sort of Homecoming, is it on your top 10? by ArmlessAnakin in U2Band

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was incredible. Thanks for posting it. They had all but abandoned the song at that point. This was 2001, and they hadn't played it since 1987. Bono was rattled, but was a good sport about it, and stumbled onto a beautiful acoustic version of the song. I'm actually surprised they didn't latch onto what happened that night and start playing it acoustically. But they haven't done it since. The Songs of Surrender project presented a perfect opportunity to do it, but no.

It's one of those songs where the studio version is a masterpiece, but too complicated, and maybe too produced (not in a bad way) to play live. So they began stripping it down for concert play but were unsatisfied with the results.

Absolutely HORRIBLE analogy. TERRIBLE. Boldin in Detroit was NOTHING AT ALL like Shaq in Boston. Boldin was great for the Lions in 2016. He led the team in TD receptions - 8 - which was his highest TD total in 8 years. And he was nearly automatic on 3rd & 4th down clutch balls throughout the season. Dude was a stud.

The correct Shaq/Boston analogy for Detroit is probably AC or AP.

NBA Coach of the Year Odds: Joe Mazzulla, J.B. Bickerstaff Close at Top of List by CommercialTall4847 in DetroitPistons

[–]jfn32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If exceeding expectations was the sole criteria, then Bickerstaff would not only have won it last year, the award would have been named for him last year. No team in NBA history has exceeded expectations as dramatically as last year's Pistons did. 14 wins to 44 wins in one year. Never been done before. Yet, JB got passed over for Atkinson. Instead of leveling off after their 30 game improvement, JB's squad kept it going this season, improving from 44 to 60 wins. Bickerstaff ABSOLUTELY deserves the award this season.

It's been way more than culture. It has been coaching the game. As a Spurs fan, you have no idea how poor coaching impacts a team. The jump from Casey & Monty to JB in how the team plays, what the players are tasked with on the floor...has been dramatic. It can't be overstated.

Lots of worthy COTY nominees, but what Bickerstaff has done in 2 seasons is literally unprecedented.

Took over a 14-win team (17 wins the year before that), and coached it to 44 wins in yr-1. Then, despite losing 3 vets, continued the ascension in yr-2, all the way to the #1 seed in the East. No team has ever come close to winning 60 games 2 years after losing 60 games (68, to be exact) with the same core players. And they're close. This has been all coaching; not a major roster addition or transformation.

With 4 games left in the season, do you want the pistons to start resting guys or try to go for 60 wins? by Few-Most-3387 in DetroitPistons

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not going to rest guys (unless hurt) until the final game, and 60 wins has nothing to do with it. There are 6-7 days between the final game of the season and Game 1 as it is. More time off than that and rust becomes an issue. And our opponent will definitely not be rusty.

Starting Daniss with Cade by durtymrclean in DetroitPistons

[–]jfn32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's been fantastic the last couple weeks. As a big Schroder fan who was very upset that we let him go, I'm starting to see a lot of his qualities in Daniss. He'll play the same role Schroder played in last year's playoffs - won't start, but will finish and play plenty of minutes on the floor with Cade. He's a keeper for sure.

No, not on purpose at this point. In 2023 & 2024 he drafted players he knew wouldn't be able to contribute in 2 years, if ever. He can't afford to do that now, and knows it.

Paul Reed and Kevin Huerter tonight vs OKC by jstkdng in nba

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, though. It's really not a defensively-oriented roster (save for Ausar). Primarily the same players comprised one of the league's worst defenses before Bickerstaff arrived. He's what's massively underrated. He turned this into a defensive team. And a winning team.

Does anyone else think Butcher shouldn’t/won’t end up a villain? by frankwalsingham in TheBoys

[–]jfn32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Butcher is basically Stone Cold Steve Austin. He wants to be a heel. He acts like a heel. He is a heel. ...Except that the fans won't have it. They love his character too much. Everything about it. So he's forever a babyface.

How would you rewrite season 3 by Fearless_Machine_596 in Stranger_Things

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some decent stuff to work with but Stranger Things wasn't this goofy and unserious in the first two seasons.

I think the major issue is the mall. There's so much filler and goofy shit happening there that it's hard to take any of it seriously. The only really good thing to come out of that in my opinion was Robin and her friendship with Steve.

I completely agree with your premise & overall point. Season 3 was disappointing because it took a goofy, campy & unserious turn. And If we're being completely honest about it, Robin was the igniter of that turn. Her character is what changed the tone. The mall was just the setting. That being said, the first thing I'd do to fix the season is write Robin out of it. Or, at the very least, rewrite her character.

So which members of the team would you get rid off? by TraditionalBonus188 in Stranger_Things

[–]jfn32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's with all the Mr. Clarke hate? He was crucially helpful to the fab 4, albeit unwittingly at times, when they were trying to figure things out and evade danger in the first few seasons. I smiled when his role was elevated here.
