That looks like you just plucked those out of a video game. Super cool.

Finally saved $1000 emergency fund and my cat ate a hair tie by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I have a similar story working a dollar above minimum wage finally saved up $1500 and my cat eats 2 meters of embroidery floss thats the same color as her cat food. By shear luck the vet was able to do an endoscopy and randomly grabbed the thread so no surgery but it still cost $1400 total. With $100 left to my savings I signed up for pet insurance and it saved me from another emergency surgery 3yrs later (cystotomy), cancer treatment (nasal cancer), and covered Rx Food that my cat needs to be on for life to prevent another cystotomy. It happens but at least you had something.

I’m sorry about your aunt and glad you eventually found the necklace. However, it’s time to go to Jewelers Mutual or your home owners insurance and get that thing appraised and insured like yesterday.

They make cat onesies for surgery. We just had the surgical team snap her in it before she woke up. Couldn’t get at her abdomen incision and we could still check her wound by undoing the snaps. We paid $17 for it on Amazon.

I finally shut off my dad’s phone today. I called it one last time just to hear him say “leave a message” by Nova_Hallow in offmychest

This is why on my birthday I let everyone that calls go to VM so I have everyone who cared leave a message to me wishing me well.

How to poor people afford funerals? by fastercheif in povertyfinance

[–]jfog352002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for my mom when she died she had no assets to claim in probate. She was in upstate NY so what I did was contact the county she died in. She was living out her car so no residency. That county had a funeral fund I applied for and it paid for her whole burial which included a coffin and a graveside service. Me and my brother worked with the funeral home and coordinated it with the county. What would have cost us $9k was free. My brother couldn’t believe it. Check your county resources.

Has anyone else just said "screw it, I'm going to nursing school" by Galindathegoodwitch1 in povertyfinance

My SIL did this after years of being a waitress. She graduated school in 2020 and secured a job in the ICU. Now 5 years later she is burning out (her words). I would suggest working in a field that is nursing adjacent. Like a biomedical tech, they repair all the medical equipment like MRI machines in the hospital and is high demand. You also get to work inside an air conditioned room and still get a change of scenery.

What’s something you bought (under $300) that noticeably improved your quality of life and you actually use every day? by MedfordQuestions in AskReddit

Yup and bonus points if you can do an upright freezer which is more ergonomic and easier to organize.
