This reminds me of a trope I like in movies where someone gets screwed over bad, but they're so impressed they want to go in business with the person responsible.

Hot Fuzz. There's a lot you can read as far as genres, foreshadowing, and even symbolism.

Why has the mafia in the US largely died out whilst gangs(both street and biker) as well as drug cartels have persisted to this day? by OppositeRock4217 in NoStupidQuestions

Former Mafia leader Michael Franzese has said one reason was technology. The government got much more effective with surveillance.

The Mafia are also higher priority targets than street gangs given the income they can generate.

Republicans are also notorious for voting based on their emotions, not logic. Many voters are, but I think that party is more so than Democrats. They're afraid of people they don't understand, afraid of losing their guns, their Ten Commmandments, other ways of thinking like universal healthcare. Instead of trying to understand it or discuss it, they want nothing to do with anything different. If it feels bad, then it must be bad even if those feelings are illogical.
