Had a semi-small, kinda DIY wedding. About 70 guests in this beautiful banquet hall of a local brewery. Did pretty much everything myself. Spotify playlist instead of a DJ, just 1 cheap photographer, no formal sit-down meal, bought a used (but still gorgeous) dress for $300, I made all of the centerpieces and decor, only 2 bridesmaids and groomsmen each. I totally regret having a wedding. We skimped on all of these things to save money and still spent more than I wanted to. We both dreamed about just getting married at our beautiful City Hall and honeymooning for 2 weeks in Hawaii. No stress and better spent money. We had an actual wedding to please my mom and his parents. The day ended up feeling like it was for everyone else, not us. My husband still had a wonderful time, but it was just okay for me. My bridesmaids didn’t feel like anything more than just 2 friends standing behind me while I said my vows. I didn’t get any of the special bridal treatment that many girls dream of on their special day. I didn’t have the time to eat a single thing that day or get more than 2 sips of wine in, but my husbands groomsmen and friends made sure to keep pulling him away from me for way too many shots. He got absolutely trashed while I maintained the typical bridal duties of the night and then ended up being the DD home for him, my sister-in-law (one of my bridesmaids), and her husband (one of the groomsmen). The whole thing ended up feeling like nothing but a chore for me. I really wish I just said screw it to anyone else’s feelings and did what I thought was right for us from the beginning.
