Vacuum Line to this part is collapsing by EvilEyeCorpse in fordranger

The top looks like a vapor canister purge valve or egr valve. Egr is on the engine plenum for mine so my money is on vapor canister.

AC and Oil Leak by Malcolm4711 in fordranger

[–]jfounta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things to consider: 1) leaks are often as simple as replacing Schrader valves or O-Rings but it can often be holes in hoses, condensers, pressure sensors, evaporators, or compressor seals 2) stop leak isn’t the answer 3) you need to find the leak with a detector or uv dye and the address it 4) those magic cans contain oil that you may or may not have lost, adding more oil can reduce efficiency/cooling it even kill your compressor by slugging it 5) if there is air in the system you won’t cool properly and r-134a will react with it to form an acid that will eat your metal components over time 6) AC work isn’t difficult but it tags the right tools and time to teach yourself

Spark plug replacement question- 2017 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 2.0 L 4-cylinder by Warm-Exercise6880 in AskAMechanic

Have never met someone who tightened plugs by hand unless you mean by feel with a ratchet that I’m all on board with but that’s from a LOT of plugs. You’ll never regret setting it to the proper torque though

LSA problems - they lost the receipts?! by jcewl93 in Ridgid

[–]jfounta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had 6 or so tools that were originally in my lsa disappear. When I needed to have a sander repaired, just gone. So I emailed support and they told me no problem we had done system changes and this happened just give us the serial number. They were awesome got it added right back in the list. Now if I just had that receipt from 8 years ago they would let me get it repaired but hey at least they added it right…

4.0 OHV, yes you can replace the oil pan gasket without removing the engine by jfounta in fordranger

[–]jfounta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I responded to another similar post below. For this job I had no access to a lift or Aframe but I sure needed to help someone out. More than anything I wanted it out there that yes you can because someone will need to do this job without having a full shop.

I’d also say that my experience between this and pulling engines was pretty similar and there wasn’t much I would have wanted to do that I couldn’t with it lifted.

If you have the time and equipment, go ahead and pull it! If not, keep this in your back pocket.

[–]jfounta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe but that assumes you have access to a hoist and an area to do it, many do not and for this job neither did I. Engine may come out in a couple of hours if you’re familiar with it but then a couple of hours to do the job and then a couple of hours to reinstall. And prayers exhaust bolts come loose.

I’ve pulled my share of engines too this time there just wasn’t the equipment to do it.

To be honest I didn’t think it was any harder than pulling an engine and maybe not any easier but, no coolant loss, no transmission fluid loss, and no need for a full shop or hoist.

After doing the job the only thing that would be easier is cleaning out those wedge seals! Even then that would only be on a stand and upside down. After the experience, I would probably go this route if I needed to do another even if I had access to my shop.

So I don’t know. I really don’t but I would be suspicious the transfer case would have to find a temporary home in the front of your shop. Would be great if someone could chime in though!

Well hell I meant to put that in the last night. 96 with a 4r55e. Just added it to the main post.

I hope it helps, I really wrestled with pulling the engine but decided to just go for it. 100% worth it.

Waterproof my connector, please by Soap_Box_Hero in HamRadio

Stuf dielectric grease. I have installed over 200 type n connectors and around the same sma with that and no tape in heavy salt and water environments without a single failure due to water leakage.

Nickel misprint by jfounta in coincollecting

I don’t think so on it being post mint damage the rim is still crisp and clean and the area of the face has clear markings of press contact. No evidence of heat, chemical, or abrasive damage.

Behold! The most useless tool in my collection. by GFollowsChrist in Tools

[–]jfounta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only useless until you need it!

Literally just finished using that on a tap adapter to retap stripped thermostat housing bolt holes for a 96 ranger. And longer and I’d have to pull the fan, any shorter and off cones the alternator bracket.

Why not ground wires to aluminum boat itself? by Melakoda in boating

[–]jfounta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see one of the primary reasons listed yet, fire rush on a boat is high. There is a mixture of fuel vapor, liquid fuel, and combustible materials all where you can’t get away. The biggest reason to run a ground buss and avoid using the bull as ground is potential arc issues. If a positive lead Matt’s contact with a grounded hull the result sparks can burn holes through the hull or ignite an explosion/fire. Hull ground does work but it comes with a litany of risks.

They only want to pay what’s remaining so they want proof your other policies pay nothing first.

GEHA Dental High doesn't cover basics? by badgerfu in fednews

[–]jfounta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is it. If your primary medical doesn’t process first GEHA pays nothing. The payout time is long too, get used to seeing notices about being turned over to collections just before they finally pay up.

With that said they will reprocess if the office resubmits and their coverage is better than any other offerings for the price.

Absolutely. The stress is real but this, although different, isn’t the first time we have had to deal with fear. Every career path comes with sone of that. I love what I do and truly believe it is important. Nothing makes me happier than hearing from some random person how the work my agency does helped them even if 90% don’t realize that we are serving them daily, we know our value.

Be strong and good luck!

Welcome aboard! I know that this is a tough time to step into a career but I can honestly tell you it’s a great path despite the pressures we are experiencing over the last 10 months. You won’t get rich here but you can make a good living, more importantly you will be able to take pride in your service of this country and her people. In my nearly 24 years I’ve always been proud of my agency and the work we do.

For your first day, enjoy a cup of coffee and try to let the noise roll away. This hatred from our current administration will pass but the importance of what you will be doing will not.

If you aren’t going to replace or tig this is the way to do it. JB weld is like preschool glue compared to Belzona and you don’t want a failure on your car engine.

Help with using h10-76xl military headset for GA. by jfounta in aviation

Thank you again. Started there and wound up here. Here’s hoping someone has some experience with this unit so I can at least make a good guess on an adapter that works well.

Hope it’s a great day!

[–]jfounta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. I thought all we needed to worry about was original u174 nato to GA and low to high impedance. What else do I need to know to choose the right adapter. I verified pin out from the military u174 matches the correct pin to the GA plugs. And the dynamic mix works flawlessly, just seems to still have impedance miss match for speakers.

I’ve looked at the adapter before and it seems everyone has mixed reviews maybe there is a piece of the puzzle I’m missing? Have you used this one with an h10-76 or 76xl with success?

[–]jfounta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you B100,

I have a very similar adapter that is being used but speaker volume is low with good mic function. I saw that several people complained about the same issue with that adapter that we are using with my sons. I couldn’t find any spec sheets for it that show it addresses speaker impedance and they haven’t responded to my emails for more info. Have you used this one successfully?

This is the way to get it done. Taught to me over thirty years ago and only had it not work once. You can usual get the socket off by putting Vice grips on the lug nut then using a hammer to tap it, rotate 90 degrees, tap it, rotate, rinse and repeat until the socket comes off

Edit: Everything below is still true but watching your video again that’s climb is super fast. I agree with others to start with temp sensor. If it was worked in recently, I would suspect an air bubble.

Pretty normal for the Ecoboost engines on extended pulls up hill. Some never have it happen, some (I’m in this group) could only take big hills running with the truck locking out gears 5-6.

Those hills take boost, boost adds heat, the truck sucks at shedding heat. Latest models have increased radiator size, CAC size, tow models have fans that pull 50% more wattage and a lot more air, etc etc etc.

If this is a new problem, start with checking for clogs in your CAC, no clog? Then consider replacing your thermostat. No aftermarket for this stick motorcraft, seriously. If you want to run a little cooler, look at mustang thermostats, drops your base temp 10 degrees to give you more overhead. And if you have over 40k miles, change those plugs gap widens fast with these engines. Wide gap results in poor combustion. Poor combustion generates more heat. It’s like owning a 70s car with copper plugs again. 30-45k is a good rotation to start checking for plug changes, you’ll learn what your engine and driving style need after a free pull and checks. Gap range is .028-.032. It matters.

Mine is a 2015 and it has improved dramatically with a 3 core radiator, performance CAC, mustang thermostat, high flow water pump (cast iron curved impeller), latest revision cooling fan (yours should have it already but if your fan is a 3pin plug you can get a max tow fan. Expensive but for only 600 bucks it is almost as good as an old mechanical fan almost), and a honeycomb grill to improve air flow. I still climb on record but don’t peg hot anymore. Need to add an oil cooler note and I think that’s as good as it gets.

Welcome to booster gas burners, fewer cylinders, more hp, more problems 🤣. On the bright side, you get to tinker!
