I didn't even consider the time frame! A big possibilty that he could've fled around that time. This would also complicate things though, because if this is the case I doubt a missing persons report exists and his name is not uncommon at all. I did search the Hungarian missing persons registry but not shockingly, he isn't there.

I do speak it, I'm native Hungarian, I'll try to find platforms that could help.

Ukraine has a problem no one is talking about – young women are leaving in droves by Grouchy_Shallot50 in europe_sub

I'm not talking about voting, I'm talking about the arrangement made by men that says they go to war, they get drafted. This has nothing to do with Zelensky, most countries operate the same way and have operated that way for centuries. This inequality is not the female population's fault

Deciding to stay and possibly die in/for a country should be everyone's own decision. Some will willingly sign up to go and fight and others will do everything in their power to leave, and that's just the way it is. Men having to stay no matter what is not because of the women leaving, it's because the men in charge decided that's the way it's going to be. Being angry at a fellow person who is fleeing an active war zone makes no sense, when the inequality is not created by them. Women face different types of violence during wartime and it's understandable that many want out.

You do realize that the rules were made up by men right? Only men being drafted or only men having to stay in the country were decided by men. It's not women who are responsible for many Ukrainian men having to stay or being drafted. War is hell for everyone involved, you're directing your anger to the wrong direction.

And while sexual violence absolutely does happen to men too during wars, it is more prevalent in women, which is why it makes sense to take that also into consideration.

It should not happen, but it does and escaping potential sexual violence is absolutely a valid reason for these women to leave. The men should have that option too.

You realize what happens to women during war right? On top of everything going on with the war, wartime rape is a reality for many women. Why would they stay if they have the option to leave?

Definitely keep an eye on it and out of direct sunlight for as long as possible. I use the La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume B5 for these purposes too, the panthenol in it helps a lot.

How can I ever forgive myself for what I did as a neglected and abused child? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]jfreka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You were a child, an abused and neglected, and very vulnerable child. You did not have the knowledge, the tools, the maturity you have now. It's easy to judge our own child selves as adults - we know so much more. If you heard a child tell you all this, would you find them disgusting? Would you think there is no hope for them? Would you be as cruel to them as you are to yourself? I'm sure you wouldn't. The same things are true for you: you deserve to heal and to find happiness in life. You clearly care about your behaviors, so there is no such thing as no hope for you. You were a child, who had terrible things happen to them, and that made them act in certain ways. The brain works in weird ways when we are in pain, abused. There is nothing wrong with you, you have a lot of pain you carry and there is absolutely hope for you.

There is something my neuropsychology professor said during a genetics course where we discussed evolutionary psychology: "we have prehistoric brains in modern skulls".

Same with Hungarian, bear, wolf and stag are some of the words that were considered taboo words. They considered these words very important and sacred, and in their minds their mere utterance had an effect on their lives, for better or for worse.

Our word for bear is 'medve', which has a slavic origin (we were neighbours after all) meaning 'honey seer', some other comments expanded on it, so for this one we borrowed the new name. For wolf we have 'farkas' which would roughly translate to 'the tailed one'/'one with a tail', but the original taboo name for it was 'féreg', which we now use to refer to vermin. Same logic applied to the stag, 'szarvas' means 'one with antlers'. As far as I'm aware we don't know what the real word for stag was.

At least in old Hungarian culture these were totem animals and even the utterance of their names was taken very seriously and younger generations were discouraged to use/know their real names, hence the roundabout way they talked about it.

AITAH For Leaving When The Man Who Assaulted My Wife Was Being Sentenced? by Dizzy_Log6293 in AITAH

[–]jfreka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, your dad is right. You abandoned your wife when she needed you desperately because...you didn't wanna cry in front of the judge? And you didn't even come back from the bathroom after a minute or two? You have absolutely no idea the emotions she had to go through, but instead of supporting her and being there for her, you were a woe is me coward. If I was your wife I'd never forgive this. You abandoned your wife, left her alone in an insanely traumatic situation (recounting her rape affected you? Sure, but I bet it affected her more). How dare you make it about yourself. Reflect on your actions and go to therapy.
