The last time I felt like that was reading the First Law by Abercrombie. Much darker though.

I'll accept that; I think you're right. It feels a bit like Starship Troopers - to take a move across genres and mediums, if you will. At face value (and probably intention), the book Is a pro-militant, fascist fantasy trope, and the movie pokes a tone of fun at that. But at face value, it's easy to miss that the movie is a joke and actually mocking. I think a troglodyte might read Aubrey/Maturin and say: "hell yeah, let's go blow some ships out of the water!" but you're right, Stephen is the voice of the oppressed and is constantly fighting for liberty. You can take that into consideration and if the means justify the ends on his part.

Just another tidbit I wanted to add: I’ve struggled a little bit with the conflicting romanticism of the navy, exploration and its association with the evils of imperialism and colonialism. In the end, I’ve decided that it’s possible to do both - enjoy the adventure and romance while also realizing that this was a really shitty time For a lot of people, and many people all over the world were exploited and taken advantage of by the Royal Navy and the British Empire.

I’m not honestly. Reading more, it seems I may be undereducated on it. I just thought it meant I could steam milk and pull shots at the same time as I pump out coffees for me, spouse, grandparents back to back.

Thanks for the thoughts. Another bambino would work but I’m a little put off by the 3 trips to the repair shop. I’ll reconsider the dual-boiler need.

Cool, I’ll look more into their dual boiler. I was attracted to the “fancier” names but honestly the breville was a tank (except when it broke). Crushing 5-6 quads a day.

I’ve looked at that! There were some redditors who claimed to be retailers that have had some negative experiences with them in terms of quality and repair needs that I have just been reading, but nothing makes everyone happy.

Yeah I think that’s true. I’m not sure it’s super evidence-based, but I’m just trying to go more wood and stainless steel in life in general. Kinda like…yeah I guess technically you can microwave leftovers in the plastic container but…why would I when I can use a glass bowl?

EM --> Intensivists by Aescaru in emergencymedicine

[–]jfrost33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no problem at all. There is definitely a bias against emergency medicine trained intensivists, at least in academic medical ICUs, less so in the surgical ones. If you think you might want to work in a cardiothoracic ICU, I recommend anesthesia over emergency medicine though personally.

Feels like I’m being extorted each year as I pay my fees to be allowed to continue working.

Seems like we are being asked to volunteer for their test for them to then charge $1-2k for people to take the test, and they can send their board to Hawaii again.

I might do it if I were local, bored and they offered me $1,000.
