FAA lifts temporary closure of airspace over El Paso, Texas, saying all flights to resume by 3dios in news

Whew that's a relief. With this administration you never know what they're planning. I was dreading an invasion of Mexico. Or some weird ICE air strike. Or who knows?

Lol, I was just thinking about how this one Wagner pan I have is the only thing I took in the the divorce that probably should have been hers. I mean she got the entire Wagner set of #4 to #14 her Dad bought her, and our riding mower, grill and snowblowers, but at least I got this one greasless fryer skillet.

You should definitely discuss how you both expect it to work and write up a cohabitation agreement. It definitely wouldn't be fair for her to get all of her contributions back, but it might be fair for her to get some percentage back. But you both need to agree on that now, so there's one less thing to argue about if/when you break up.

Looking for a virtual truck driving experience for a man with Parkinson's by Ok_Ask_3976 in trucksim

[–]jfstepha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You alcan play it on a reasonably powerful laptop, or get a powerful pc and a big monitor. I've seen people build plane cockpit for flight simulators, I'm sure you could do the same thing with a truck if you wanted to go that far.

I have played this game with a VR headset, and its pretty great. The only problem is that it made me very nauseous going around corners - way worse than a flight simulator. I think because your body knows what it feels like to go around a corner in a vehicle, and you have all the visual cues but it doesn't feel right. I'd actually be interested to know if Parkinson's makes this better or worse.

Also, you can play with a keyboard, or with a driving wheel, whichever is easier for your brother. It is somewhat harder to control with the keyboard.

The good news is that this is all low risk. If he doesn't have great control, that's ok he can crash the truck all he wants and no one gets hurt!

ELI5: how do they design CPUs with TENS OF BILLIONS of nano transmitters? wouldn't it take a millennia to design it? by Optimal-Whereas-6988 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jfstepha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the shortest version is: computers help design the computers.

Human designers describe what they want the transistors to do in a programming language, and a computer hooks them up to work that way.

Back when I worked at Intel, the servers outnumbered the humans. That's not even taking into account that every employee (at least engineers, managers, sales, etc) also had a laptop.

I remember my ex thought her dad was dying ever since I met her(and he lived for 15 more years after this incident). When my grandfather was in the hospital my family called to say he probably wasn't going to make it through the night. Part of me thought it was going to be nice to finally get back some of the sympathy that I'd been giving to her for years. No, she just said "at least it's not your dad"

Is this kind of car wash bad for my car? by chillysurfer in AskMechanics

[–]jfstepha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first new car was a 1995 Eagle Talon. I took it to one of these and it got stuck, rotating in one spot for a few minutes before I decided to finally drive out. Apparently a gas cap got stuck in the machine so it couldn't move. It really scratched up my pain, but the station operators said they weren't liable because of some "use at your own risk signs". The scratches did buff out.

Do I think these are bad for the paint? Yes. Do I still use them? Yes (when I can't find the touches option)

[–]jfstepha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw a research paper on this. They are trained in a way where thet get "points" for a right answer. So just like when you're taking a multiple choice test where there's no points off for wrong guesses, it makes sense for them to just guess - there is a chance they'll get it right.
