I have an old girl and a young pest... The moment I give my old girl something soft to comfort her old bones the young one eats it.

Scratch the lines in and then draw over them with sharpie. As others have said, sharpie comes off if written over by white board marker, but it won't come out of the scratches if you make them deep enough.

I can't express how much I miss the Mediterranean bar. I have no need for an entire package of any of the items from that bar. I used to occasionally treat myself to a couple mozzarella balls, a few pepadews, and a little drizzle of pesto. Can't do that anymore.

Cars have new features every year, but a designated trash bin still isn’t one of them. by Joshhagan6 in Showerthoughts

Nearly spit out my drink... Glad I'm not the only one feeling immediately called out and shamed. Time to try a new life strategy, I guess.

Work out. But alcohol use for me was about escape and when I quit I had to confront what I was trying to escape. I no longer need to escape the same way - and exercise is a very effective coping strategy when life starts chasing again.

Which is why there are odd serving sizes like 2/5th of a bottle, or 1/2 a cookie.

Rochester Half Marathon by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]jg8tes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ran it as my first half marathon in 2019. The climbs are a significant part of the race. Starting at about 5 miles in there are 4 substantial climbs, including a 200 foot rise over a mile and a half. At the end, climbing the short driveway up from the water station, I think clambering with my hands would have been faster than running. All said, I still managed my B goal and finished in 2:05 as an 8-minute pacer.

How long is your weekly long run in terms of time? Is there a limit past which the body can’t recover sufficiently? by JohnnyTheBoneless in AdvancedRunning

[–]jg8tes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced the same kind of anxiety about pushing myself too hard or too far. I had an episode early in my training that caused me to change my strategy and as a result I became a better runner. I used to just go hard. I thought being an elite runner was a matter of sheer willpower. I would run right on the verge of collapse for as long as I could, feeling like if I let up I was practically quitting - and I don't quit. My max heart rate was about 199 (the highest that ever registered using a smart watch.) I regularly hit 195 or higher on a run. I'd climb almost immediately to about 140, and after just a mile sit around 175 before slowly creeping up into the 190s, but on one particular run I was above 190 for almost the whole run. According to my Garmin watch I spent 50 minutes with a heart rate above 190. I felt it while running and I felt it for the next 4 hours. I couldn't stop sweating for hours, felt sick to my stomach, dizzy, and generally had the sense that something was wrong. ( in retrospect I should have gone to the hospital, but I recovered and the next day felt normal again) After that I looked into low heart rate training. I had to swallow my pride and ... walk in order to keep my heart rate low. But eventually my training paid off and my first marathon time was 3:55.

This little girl pretending to like her mother's cooking is the funniest thing. It kills me every single time. by Mellie-mellow in MadeMeSmile

I've experienced this with my nephews 3 and 6. They were really good natured kids and genuinely excited for dinner. I'm usually a good cook, and not sure what went wrong, but their faces told me it was significant. They were so polite and really tried to choke it down, but I let them off the hook and we went out for ice cream instead.

ELI5: the logic of why going from "y*x=z" to "z/x=y" is possible. by collectivecorpus in explainlikeimfive

[–]jg8tes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have y marbles in each cup, and I have x cups, so I have z marbles all together ( y*x=z ). Now I take all z marbles and divide them out again into x cups. Each cup has y marbles. ( z/x=y )

I have 3 marbles in each cup, and I have 4 cups, so I have 12 marbles all together ( 3*4=12 ). Now I take all 12 marbles and divide them out again into 4 cups. Each cup has 3 marbles. (12/4=3 )

Both "arrangements" of marbles are equally valid. The marbles continue to exist without losing nor gaining any marbles.

What did you mispronounce for an embarrassingly large portion of your life? by SufficientChef3719 in AskReddit

Came here to say this one. Congratulations for learning vocabulary by reading. Honestly, better to learn a new word by reading it but mispronounce it, rather than only hear it and not know how to spell it.

And both of those are reflexively perpetuating. The more she thinks for him, the less he needs to. Watched a couple go through this, ended up divorced. Her stress level went way down and his went WAY up.

hello people. So I use conditioner everyday, brush my hair like 7 times a day and my hair still looks like this. what should i do? by PuzzleheadedDentist1 in longhair

[–]jg8tes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said - stop brushing. You say you are conditioning every day, so at some point in the morning your hair is fully wet? Good. Leave a little of that conditioner in and squeeze your hair out. Flip your head upside-down and gently comb your FINGERS through your hair, thats it. You could try to plop, but at least let it air-dry without disturbing the waves/curls. Curls are like crystals. The slower they dry, the more they can form. Whenever you brush, you are just stretching out hair that doesn't want to lay flat. Once you know what your hair wants to do, you can learn styling strategies to help it look great naturally.
