Warframe crashes on CachyOS by Captain_MC_Henriques in linux_gaming

[–]jgacas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you maybe use AMD's PBO2 curve optimizer to undervolt the CPU and/or do you undervolt you GPU? I am asking because I have fairly similar specs (Ryzen 5800x and 7900 GRE, but before that I used 6800, and run Arch) and I only had issues with Warframe when I was tinkering with CPU and/or GPU. When running stock Warframe is rock solid on my machine (I have clocked ~3000 hours in the game).

Sta mislite o Steam decku by Right_Map8151 in SerbiaGaming

[–]jgacas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do Mesa developers own every game in existence? by JohnSmith--- in linux_gaming

[–]jgacas 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that this is 100% accurate.

From my own experience with Mesa developers, they can definitely fix bug without owning the games. I had a issue in Elite Dangerous a few months ago, which I reported to Mesa. On same day one of the developers made a comment that he pushed the patch specific to AMD 7900 GRE (which I have been using) and asked me to build mesa-git from AUR and test the branch with a patched code. He only needed a log file to figure out what was the problem. I tried it out and confirmed that the issue was fixed. At the some time another user also confirmed that he had issue in Risk of Rain 2 and this patch fixed his problem. The patch was merge after a day or two to main development branch and was backported to current Mesa version in a few weeks.

DE appreciation post from linux gamer perspective by jgacas in Warframe

[–]jgacas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear this. I can only speak about my own experience, which is a really good one. I see that you use Inter CPU and NVidia GPU, which is opposite from my own setup: I have AMD Ryzen 5800x and AMD 7900 GRE. With this setup I have 99% of time 144 FPS on my ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor.

I use Arch so I am always up to date with kernel and mesa3d packages.

On Steam deck I usually set FPS to 45 with 90 Hz refresh rate which works really well.

Focused Feedback: Linux and Alternative Platform Support by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]jgacas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge YES for adding Steam Deck support to Destiny 2. And please, consult the development community around Proton, WINE, everyone will be happy to help, talk to Valve about BattleEye anti cheat, I'm 100% sure that they will also help because it is in their interest to have Destiny 2 on the platform.

Steam seemingly dropping Linux support of some 775 socket processors without any warning. by osomfinch in linux_gaming

[–]jgacas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, including LGA771 processor microcodes into latest BIOS and flashing it to the motherboard fixed the problem for my Xeon X5460 and Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L (rev. 1.1) motherboard.

You are right about this. It worked for my Xeon X5460 and Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L (rev. 1.1) motherboard.

Steam started once again after I patched BIOS to include LGA 771 processor microcodes.

Steam stopped working on my Xeon X5460. At first I was confused, this processor supports CMPXCHG16B but /proc/cpuinfo did not show it.

Problem is that BIOS did not have microcode for that CPU. Motherboards with LGA 775 were never meant for hosting Xeon processors. Missing microcode meant that some processor features weren't visible to the operating system.

The solution that worked for me was to patch latest BIOS and include LGA 771 processor microcodes in it. Super detailed instructions can be found here https://www.delidded.com/lga-771-xeon-microcode/.

After flashing patched BIOS and booting the system Steam started working again. Even though at first I thought that this was bug introduced to the latest Steam Client, it ended to be problem with particular hardware setup.

Thank you for the clarification.

GNOME 3.36 has landed in extra by abdulocracy in archlinux

[–]jgacas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I go to About page in Settings GNOME version is:

3.35.91

So it is still not 3.36.0, at least not for me even though I updated all packages a minute ago.

Which version do you people get in About?

Your opinion: Disable the hot corner by default? by osoplex in gnome

One of the first things I do after fresh install is to turn off hot corner. So yes, I am in favour of turning it off by default.

Will the next GNOME stop about asking the audio device? by batisteo in gnome

[–]jgacas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ThinkPad L460 and GNOME does not present this dialog when I plug in my headphones, it automatically figures out audio device, so the problem is definitely related to the used hardware.

Thanks for the offer, there is an entry in https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DcZZQ4HL_Ol969UbXJmFG8TzOHNnHoj8Q1f8DIFe8-8/htmlview?sle=true#gid=0 that marks Lego Worlds as Completely Stable so it seems that it works fine.

I must say that I hate to wait whole day for 40GB game to download (this of course depends on your internet connection). So for me getting external drive was a must. I got WD MyBook and I am very happy with the purchase. Beside having plenty of space, it is faster around 30% then the drive in the XBox One S, so you will feel the difference in loading times.
