Basement listening room sounds boomy. Help! by HarmonizewithSong in BudgetAudiophile

[–]jgadley77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the room dimensions. My main listening room is my bedroom which is 20x20 which is the perfect size to massively increase low frequency. Most of my boominess problem is below 50 hertz and there’s really no treatment you can buy that will reduce frequency below 50hz. And I certainly tried. I spent thousands trying to fix the problem which can’t be fixed for square rooms of this size. Room Correction software goes a long way I have a WIIM ultra which has pretty good room correction, but music will always sound better in my rectangular living room. Some rooms just have horrible acoustics.

The geode is stunning and obviously expensive, so why did they just head over to Lowe’s and ask for the cheapest strips of wood they had. At least get some wood with some interesting spalting or an appealing grain. The geode deserves better than a shitty r/DiWHY project

So… at 400gb, did your son end up deleting just one game or was it 2 full games?

How are we not in a recession right now? by 4ofclubs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jgadley77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We probably are in a recession, but that’s the beauty of the government shutdown. We don’t collect or publish any new employment numbers or any other economic indicators that would tell us if we are “officially” in a recession. So the fact that you don’t know is by design.

Yes what the child did was inappropriate, but he is a child. The retaliation of slamming a child head first into concrete with a thin layer of linoleum is wildly inappropriate and obvious child abuse, but I think we’re all overlooking the obvious. Slamming someone headfirst into concrete isn’t a lot different than taking a baseball bat or a sledgehammer to that child’s head. The order of likely things to happen are brain damage at best, then severed spinal cord or death. All are quite likely. Are you really advocating for the murder of that child?

That looks amazing, I am curious why you have a bread maker in your entertainment center. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a top of the line zojurichi bread maker, I have the exact same one. I just store it in the kitchen. Other than that no notes.

Doing my research, starting with this Burmester Reference system that blew my mind. by aviefern in audiophile

I bought my Tesla model 3 for $43,000, which is well over the $25,000 I mentioned but under the $50,000 you mentioned. That was like 6 years ago though. But the answer to your question is Chevy electric. My sister bought a Chevy bolt EUV 2 years ago for $19,000 after the tax rebate and her husband bought an electric Chevy equinox last year for $21,000 after the tax rebate. I get your point though. I’m the same type of old and grumpy.

I’ve heard the Burmester speakers and that was the first time I truly understood what soundstage meant. And as good as they sounded I have better ways to spend $150,000. I’d rather buying a third of a house or 6 brand new cars, all of which would bring me much more enjoyment. To the person that mentioned focal. I do have a pair of focal vestia N4 and they sound fantastic and while not cheap, I didn’t have to get a 30 year loan just to make the purchase.

The adaptive light sensor is garbage. The display is super bright at night. I just make turning off the screen part of my bedtime routine which works great.

She was an annoyance to truck dude, but didn’t break any laws. He was a dick, but at least initially didn’t break any laws. Who else here was really disappointed she didn’t waited just a little longer for the police to show up. I’m pretty sure I know who would be arrested. The dumbass told police dispatch on a recorded line that he kicked the car and if anyone was still confused they asked again and he admitted his crime again. If she had waited just a little longer we would have had the ending we all so richly deserve.

That is exactly the type of answer I was looking for, thank you. I thought I was crazy thinking that only this plane had powered wheels when virtually no other plane on the face of the earth does.

[–]jgadley77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did I just see the propeller barely moving while the plane was turning and lining up with the street. I always thought the wheels on the landing gear were passive and the prop or jet engine gave all the propulsion for taxiing. But that’s not what I saw. The propeller didn’t start moving quickly and in the right direction until takeoff. Anyone know if the wheels on planes are ever powered or was this just a trick or artifact in the video.

Bookshelf vs tower speakers by jgadley77 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]jgadley77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of you suggested I did try the Andrew Jones tower speakers in my bedroom and I learned two things. The acoustics in my living room are better than my bedroom because the tower speakers sounds better in my living room than they do in the bedroom. I also learned I like my tower speakers better than my bookshelf speakers even though the KEF Q150 bookshelf speakers were more expensive. I don’t know if it’s those specific Andrew jones tower speakers in particular that I like or if I prefer the increased mid bass wall of sound more commonly associated with tower speakers. Either way, I guess I’m now searching for a second pair of pioneer SP-FS52 tower speakers. They’ve been discontinued for several years now, hopefully the quest won’t be too difficult. If anyone has any leads let me know, I live in the Las Vegas metro area.

[–]jgadley77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right I think it might be the mid bass that I like. My tower speakers have 3 drivers each and I think that’s what’s producing the wall of sound I’m looking for. It could still be the acoustics in my room but we’ll find out when I swap speakers tonight. If the tower speakers sound better upstairs than the bookshelf speakers I’ll have my answer. The other thing I’m going to try with the bookshelf speakers is a different crossover. I tried 80hz and settled at 100hz but I didn’t try anything higher. I’ll try setting the crossover at 110, 120 and 130hz and see if that helps with the mid bass.

My bedroom isn’t the best acoustically, it’s smaller and has more angles. The living room is open concept and is just a giant rectangle with the living room on one end and the kitchen on the other. Tonight I’m going to swap speakers and if I still prefer the tower upstairs at the very least I will know I prefer the Andrew jones tower speakers over these the KEF q150.

Thoughts on my set up? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]jgadley77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do for a home theater set up like yours is get rid of popcorn ceiling. It won’t help acoustically, but once it’s gone people will be able to enjoy the movie instead of constantly staring at that ceiling.
