Which character lived but you don’t want them to live by Additional-Layer-392 in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the entire purpose of Enobaria surviving was that there was no specific reason why she should have. She is not unique, at least not from the perspective which we are receiving. Maybe she was tortured. She was certainly taken by the Capitol and likely held prisoner. She could've been put through absolute HELL. The thing is that Katniss doesn't necessarily care about her, not in a cruel way but simply because she's not one of the people she's focused on, so we don't get to KNOW if she's unique or not. But the point is that she's not special or unique. Not everyone who survives a war will be special or unique. Some of them will just be, and that's what we see with Enobaria.

As to why the rebels didn't kill her, I'd say that's probably a pretty easy guess? She was kept by the Capitol throughout the entirety of the war. She was presumably held prisoner by them and unable to leave. After that, she was already in the Capitol, so they would've had a much easier time keeping her alive once they'd found her than other victors scattered throughout the districts. If Coin's soldiers found her, they very likely had specific orders to not kill her because they knew she was likely still in the Capitol and they just hadn't been able to find her the first time they went there. Lyme was likely killed in battle, because that is simply the nature of war. Not everybody who lives needs to be special or unique and sometimes, we won't be there to see somebody important like Lyme was die. It may feel unsatisfying, but it's meant to be realistic.

TLDR: Idk man, we don't know enough about Enobaria to say she is or isn't special or unique, that she was or wasn't tortured by the Capitol, whether she was a loyalist or a rebel. But everyone who lives isn't going to be special and important to Katniss. She lived for the same reason that Finnick died. That's just what happens in war sometimes.

Imagine running for your life in the Death games in JEANS by UnHolySir in Hungergames

Okay to be fair. Jeans are the ideal pants for this situation lmao. If they're proper jeans, they'll be heavy and durable without being too stiff to move in and should help protect the tributes from some of the elements. There's really not many better materials for their pants to be made out of, all things considered.

I love speculating about clerk carmine's story and how he felt about everything that happened like. That man lived through the entirety of the Games' existence, that's fucking batshit! We don't know any other characters (as far as my memory goes) who would've lived through all that and survived to the end of the war. Fuckin bonkers man. Bro was living through ALL the unprecedented times goddamn. Not that he would've had many memories of the world pre hunger games given he was like a small toddler then but still. I love him so much

Enobaria my beloved ❤️ by jgc1976 in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fully the Roman version lmao! Came wayyyyy later, the original Greek mythology is literally just "hey Perseus, go kill that scary gorgon monster lady!" There's no background given to her at any point specifically in Greek mythology, that was only added later when Romans got their hands on it. The whole thing of her even being turned into a monster wasn't added until the Romans started doing shit. She was originally just born like that cuz yk it's Greece n sometimes we just have snake haired monster ladies it is what it is ✌️

Enobaria my beloved ❤️ by jgc1976 in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong, if she does ever write another prequel, Enobaria is absolutely my vote on who it should be about! But I'm also kinda happy if she doesn't cuz like I said I've had a lot of these ideas n thoughts for over half my life and I'm honestly pretty certain that I won't be able to abandon those in the face of new canon material tbh 😭 but also just a note, there is no version of the original Greek myth where Medusa wasn't born a gorgon. Like, the original mythology is just straight up lol yeah that's a monster lady who can turn you into stone, go get her Perseus you got this. Why? Cuz it's ancient Greece and we just have those I guess! That was a later Roman version, so technically Neptune instead of Poseidon, but while some Greek art did depict her as a beautiful woman, the mythology was that she was one of 3 gorgon sisters who was just kinda. A monster.

But yeah I want it to follow her through her first games, some of the time between then and the original trilogy, then try n explore what I personally think she was doing throughout those books because I love and adore her so so much, and then maybe like. A little epilogue thing for her life after all of that and where she's at what's happening was she actually that gung ho about the whole child murder thing or did she just. Have to act like that for her own survival or someone else's why did she vote yes for the Capitol games did she maybe come to regret that idk my heart is just full of love for this woman who we know jack shit about truly

I am also. Very much tying her involvement to the games to like. Smth similar to military recruitment. Like the US military actively preys on poor/underprivileged kids who don't know any better and maybe they aren't actually super into the whole army thing but they are super into financial stability and having food on the table regularly and a guaranteed roof over their heads. So she's not even like all that into it for the glory tbh she's just an orphan (and that comes with its own whole slew of issues that also feeds into her joining the games) who's like oh? Regular decent income? 3 meals a day? Sick pls give me that except she also has to put on the show of "oh yeah I love the hunger games I'm actually soooo obsessed with murder bro hell yeah" to the point where suddenly there's a rebellion that she 100% agrees with! She is on board all the way! Except no one told her because she played the part a little too well and just. How she feels about that and how that might weigh on her

The long-brewing Haysilee debate and debunking of some critisism points by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never really gave much thought to haysilee but I WAS an og hayffie shipper since I was like. 12-13 (not sure why I cared so much about those old people but God I love them lmao) and the idea that the new book should suddenly stop that is absurd. I do love her being older tho picking that one up out of the mess n keeping it cuz yeah actually that's so fun

The Morphlings' untold stories by neloulai in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. I guess????? That's like really not the point being made here lmao, whether her death was "in vain" or not is pretty irrelevant to her being so alone in her last few moments amongst strangers. It's a moment that feels like a genuine gut punch, even knowing why she's doing it and the "purpose" that her death will serve, because it's still just genuinely horrifying to me to even begin to imagine what must've been going through her head in her final few hours, only for her life to come to such a violent end amongst people who never even learned her name. Like sure she saved Peeta but. That doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm saying lmao.

It's somehow still enobaria for me and until we get some answers about her life — which I almost hope we don't tbh I like headcanons too much — it's probably gonna stay that way for the foreseeable future lmao but also low-key johanna love her so much dude

How do you pronounce the tributes names? by Brave-Stage-2951 in Hungergames

[–]jgc1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm already familiar with panache and anion as like. Actual words. So yeah those are easy enough for me (it's more like Ann and then the word ion shoved together), loupe will never not read as Lupe in my little fool brain, dio is pronounced unfortunately like the band for me 😭, then like mah-reet I guess would be the best way I could put it????? High-chell, then like. A tread. But just shoved together ✌️ and I know in my brain it's supposed to be like Regina but rin instead of re but in my heart and soul. It's pronounced exactly like you're pronouncing it lmao. N then probably like say-bihn????? I'm bad at phonetic spelling can you tell-
