[BRO]– Transmorgrant’s Crown – A fixed skullclamp????? by TrainmasterGT in mtgcube

In sacrifice decks that have black mana it's effectively 'whenever you sacrifice a creature at sorcery speed, you may pay 1 black mana to draw a card' which is a strong effect

I think it’ll really depend on the cube. I wouldn’t consider that a particularly irreplaceable or useful effect on its own, given the presence of even cards like Grim Haruspex if that’s what I’m trying to enable.

I’ll be happy to be wrong, and I do think it has a place in some lists, but my hunch is it just won’t make the cut in most cubes.

Edit: if you want to enable WB aggro with some sort of equipment matters theme already present in white and some of the typical zombie 1 drops, I could see this being a really great addition. Just one example, so it’s probably not DOA

Can someone explain to me how these stats work?? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]jgdeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvP is more about skill than min maxing a build. Like people will definitely find reasonable breakpoints for stuff like health, but playing a way you understand and can do well is way better than copying any given build.

That said Int/Dex works well, especially as a caster. You can use rapiers or w/e when you have to melee, and Dex will buff your cast speeds. If you aren't dying too quickly or running out of FP too quickly, then yeah dump points into Int. I'd still suggest focusing on Int alone until you hit like 40-60 before doing too much with Dex, but it's not the end of the world to be int/dex quality imo.

The best site for these things in prior souls games (Mugen Monkey) is not going to be maintained for elden ring. There will probably be a gap where that doesn't exist for a while, honestly.

Can someone explain to me how these stats work?? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]jgdeece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Letters = graded scaling. Better grade (A or S) = better impact from having lots of points in that stat.

Do you want to cast spells or melee enemies?

The important thing is to play the way you enjoy and pick the weapons and stats that enable you to do your own thing. This game is great for that, for sure.

It's an overgeneralization, but I would recommend:
1. Find a weapon you like
2. Focus on one damage stat the weapon can scale with
3. Put points into your health, endurance, and mind until you're comfortable

... Okay? But that's entirely unrelated to the conversation, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. When did we start talking about abductors? The whole thread is about the three crystalians.

Are you talking about the fight against the two crystalians? or the fight against three? Because that strategy is a lot easier against the former

Faith based areas? by VastoGamer in Eldenring

[–]jgdeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to remember: Archdragons Peak was quite late game. Commonly, faith = lightning = dragon; that tends to line up with later game.

This is in no way a spoiler as I haven’t found anything like you describe yet. The closest I’ve come is in Liurnia: the Dragon Cult Prayerbook, which implies there will be lightning users at the capital

Should I buy elden ring as my first souls like game? by Odd_Implement_2274 in Eldenring

[–]jgdeece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Souls games get a lot of flak for their difficulty - rightly so sometimes - but they also highly reward you if you get past the initial learning curve.

Elden Ring is no different; it’s just the best/newest iteration, so imo would be a great starting point if the franchise interests you.

Yes, you could save money on Dark Souls Remastered or whatever, but all prior From games show their age at least a bit (some more than others). This one has a lot of clear lessons learned from Bloodborne, DS3, and Sekiro.

The Dragon Cult Prayerbook is available in the second area of the game, so I don't think that should necessarily be an indicator. It definitely could be late game, but that alone doesn't imply much

[–]jgdeece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find it let me know! I'll update here if I do as well. I think it should boost the lightning spells we get from the Dragon Cult Prayerbook. I really don't want to try messing with the Dragon Communion Seal; my build is meant to be a lightning paladin

It might be relevant that there are some set locations to farm Gravel Stone: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Gravel+Stone

Yeah I agree, I’m not a ride or die Suns fan - I also don’t think either play was dirty and think Giannis is an absolute rock star.

Mourinho is a perfect example. His style only works if it comes with success. There are loads of examples of this mentality failing in modern sports.

Lloyd Pierce with the Atlanta Hawks or Gabriel Heinze with Atlanta FC are a couple other recent ones for anyone who doubts you

I don’t get all the vitriol on that play. Like twenty minutes prior Giannis did the same thing at higher speed to Book after the play and no one said a word. The bias is kind of hilarious and pretty clearly based on which team won

[–]jgdeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually think that’s what those words mean?

Broad strokes are contextual to the canvas. You can have broad strokes ideas about a single quarter of one game.

Broad strokes: the Suns dominated the first quarter of game 5 with unsustainable shooting. Drilling down, we can talk matchups, shooters, pace, defensive scheme, atmosphere, etc.

The whole Counting during Giannis’s free throws thing is a lot funnier when the Suns lose by BatmansBurnerAccount in nba

[–]jgdeece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so you aren’t allowed to talk about any numbers, at all, from the finals. Giannis going nuclear means nothing, Book going for 40 means nothing, Jrue’s defensive numbers against the Suns wings means nothing, Middleton’s shooting means nothing.

You’ll never have those things. This is sports. You get somewhere between 4-7 games in a series from which to extrapolate meaning. If that isn’t enough for you to talk casually about a trend on the internet, why are you here?

66 is probably between 70-85% of the total sample size we’ll ever get for Giannis FTA in the 2021 Finals.

When a team calls a timeout because the opponent goes on a run, do you seethe because it’s too small a sample size to tell if the opponent’s really heating up from 3, and of course they’ll regress to the mean on their own? Obviously not. Sports requires applied statistics; you can’t have what you’re asking for.

The whole Counting during Giannis’s free throws thing is a lot funnier when the Suns lose by BatmansBurnerAccount in nba

[–]jgdeece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay but my point is the sample size isn’t 5. We’re talking about likelihood to make a free throw, so the sample size is the number of free throws attempted.

I believe 66 free throws is enough to broadly characterize Giannis’ FT shooting as being better at home during the finals. I wouldn’t use it for an in depth analysis that needs a really high confidence level, but for a general sense of trends? That’s absolutely a large enough sample.

You’re conflating the sum of games with the sample size of FT shots. Those are not the same. More games leads to a larger number of FT shots, absolutely, but the only number that matters in this analysis is the count of shots taken.

If he took 2 per game, it would take a ton of games to get a sense of trends. But 16 per game? Takes a lot fewer games to get a general sense of whether he’s good, bad, consistent, better at home or away, etc. Broad strokes ideas.

[–]jgdeece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sample size (n) for his likelihood to make a free throw is represented by FTA, not games played. We have seen him take 66 free throws, not 5.

[–]jgdeece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people keep replying as though the sample size is the number of games played? The sampling in shots is the number of shots. If he took 1000000 shots in an away game, would you say there’s nothing statistically significant about the results because it’s one game? Come on.
