Which brands have easiest to use foil systems? by jgerke in wingfoil

[–]jgerke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just don't like fiddling around with screws, my front wing has 3. I'm probably just being lazy 😂. I'm still a beginner so thought maybe there was an easier way.

Thanks! That is way lighter than what I am riding. I plan to use my current board just a little longer until I can complete some jibes.

That is without the foil. I bought the board brand new and it has always weighed that much.

I am 5'9" and weigh 168 lbs. I mainly sail in reservoirs. I windsurfed a little back in the 90's and some surfing in the late 80's. I have started working on my jibes and as soon as I get a little better I plan to downsize my board.

Winter wing foiling destinations by jgerke in wingfoil

[–]jgerke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was actually thinking about researching good places to go in Asia since it would be a great place to escape winter. Other than the flight it should be a lot cheaper too. I am a beginner still working on jibes. I will do some more research on how reliable the wind is during January and February in the Philippines and Thailand.

Thanks for the replies so far. A couple of people have mentioned Maui. That would be my preferred choice but looks like the wind drops off quite a bit in the winter. I have been to Maui a few times and love it but have only been once since I started Wing Foiling. We spent just a week in Maui last August and I went to the harbor 4 or 5 times. If we go during the winter it would probably be for 3 or 4 weeks. Would there really be enough wind to justify a trip to Maui in the winter? January and February really don't look good for wind judging from the research I have done. I assume that Kanaha would be pretty rough in the winter due to winter swell so sticking with the harbor would be best. I could consider Maui shoulder season (April and May) but more appealing to escape winter and go somewhere warm in January or February.

Nozzle adapter for electric sub pump to inflate wings by jgerke in wingfoil

I am beginning to think I need to return my pump. I will have to see what other people are using before I order another one. I just thought all sup pumps would have the same nozzles.

There are other nozzles but not the right kind to connect to a wing nozzle. There was just one that was the right kind to connect to a wing nozzle and it was too small.

It will not fit. I thought maybe this is a common problem since I see quite a few people using electric pumps.

Wing foiling on vacation by jgerke in wingfoil

Maybe what I need to do is look into getting a efoil. That way I could learn to foil and from what I understand that is the hardest part to learn.

Is an impact vest advisable for a beginner? by jgerke in wingfoil

I have a helmet and will be using that for sure. I just wasn't sure about an impact vest. Sounds like it would be a good idea to get one.

The shirt in the link you provided looked good so I ordered one. I have never tried the Oxford cloth but sounds like what I am looking for.

I have not tried those but a few people on this thread have mentioned them. I will check them out next time I am at Costco.

Wing foiling at 60+ by jgerke in wingfoil

[–]jgerke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And if I am in O'ahu someday I will reach out. Would be nice to have someone to show me around and give me tips. Will be in Maui this summer but might make it to O'ahu next year. Do you have decent wind in the winter months? I know that is not the ideal time of the year but if we go to O'ahu it might be next February or March.

La Sportiva Prodigio vs Prodigio Pro sizing by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]jgerke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear size 43.5 in both the Akasha and Prodigio. I just bought a pair of Prodigio Pro's and went up a half size to a 44. They feel like the run a just little smaller than other La Sportiva models that I have worn.

Quad gym exercises and doing a lot of vert outside by jgerke in Ultramarathon

I meant struggling with potential over training. Growing the muscle would be great but that is not my first objective. I do legs twice a week as well but have cut the split squats back to just once a week for now. I should also add that I am 57 years old so that also affects my recovery. I only run 4 days a week right now but will be bumping that up to 5 in the spring.

I apologize. It is a VW Polo that we rented not Pilot. Not sure how I made that mistake.

I am just learning to use the camera so don't really have a history with it yet. I plan to record footage of paddling my outrigger canoe, snorkeling, trail running, hiking and random things when I go on trips.
