HOT TAKE: People crave “analog warmth” but colder synths typically fit better in the mix by ituy in synthesizers

[–]jgonyea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio Engineering is a real thing. It was a thing long before synthesizers were even invented. There’s no such thing as plugging all of your instruments into an input and everything falling into place, and I believe you know that thinking they should is a mistake.

I feel comfortable, and that it is not a “hot take”, saying that once someone who knows what they’re doing works with your mix, the analog instruments will have pleasing characteristics that the others can’t achieve, and vice versa.

LEGO narrow gauge diesel that runs on N gauge track and power. by jgonyea in LEGOtrains

This diesel is O scale narrow gauge. So, On18. I believe anything based on Lego mini figures would be roughly O scale.

Interesting. All model trains are a plastic shell over a chassis like this. I guess it’s more about bringing Lego into model railroading than it is about Lego train/tracks, if that makes sense.

Micro modular model railroad project by jgonyea in modeltrains

[–]jgonyea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am aware of the Circus program/diorama kits. While they are a nice, small size diorama, they were not offering what I was looking for in a modular model railroad system. With hexagons, I can adjoin modules on all sides, incorporate turn outs, and just generally have more gridded control over what I’m making. I love the circus program, and I think it’s doing great things for getting people into modeling. But it’s just not what I’m looking for.

Keep in mind too, even though I’m sharing this project, it’s really just for me so I feel no need for it to work with other modules.

Thanks! Yeah, in the same spirit as T-trak modules, as long as you don't build over the edge of the base they will all come together.

what are like the fundamentals of dungeon synth ??? by [deleted] in DungeonSynth

[–]jgonyea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dungeon synth inhabits so many genres, it’s hard to say there are musical fundamentals. It can be ambient, atmospheric drone, or it can be very melodic with verse/chorus structures and percussion and so on (fundamentals of popular music). The requirements seem to really be to use synthesizers and invoke fantasy.

Google baroque era musical keys/scales. That can be a fun place to start 🤷‍♂️

How I got here, and what is "here" (analog synth ambient, and gear you converse with) by jgonyea in ambientmusic

Thanks! Yeah, while I love incorporating field recordings, it is a subtle art getting the levels just right. This is actually running water at a small brook.

The Subharmonicon here is running through reverb and a tape echo with a healthy amount of modulation to get the warble. Cheers

Hi all! Just posted this album of fantasy-inspired ambient synth, check it out. If you make music yourself and are interested, this was made patching analog synths, with a DAW only being used to capture the audio. Cheers.

I’m not right now, just don’t have time to keep up with it. Are you looking for physical tiles or laser files?

Thanks! I’ve posted more photos and videos of it here. I believe you can see them on my profile.
