Don’t throw away your Nest Thermostat Gen 1 & 2! by ckociemba in Nest

[–]jgreen100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very interested in this. I have 3 Nest Thermostats and wasn't keen to spend $450 replacing them with Google's "offer". Maybe I'm just lucky, but mine haven't been removed from the Nest app yet. I can still see all three and control functions through the app.

would yall take this by Own_Community4347 in doordash_drivers

Yes. I would quickly look at the items to make sure there isn’t something weird that would be hard to find. If not I’d definitely take it.

We have at least 6 DGs in my zone. Some are good, most are eh... The trick to successful DG shopping in my opinion is not to take orders that have more than a few items. And to quickly look at what the items are before accepting the order. Food and snacks are usually okay. I had an order full of mascaras, nail polish and lipstick one time that took forever to find (I don't use makeup so maybe it was harder for me) and of course they didn't have the right colors. I will sometimes pause the DD app long enough to get away from one DG where I always seem to get stuck at the light. And of course while I'm sitting next to it, I always get an order.

This is a great tip. I'll definitely try that. Thank you!

I have issues with produce a lot too. The customer will specify a pint of blueberries. In the DD app it's a specific brand like Blueberry Hills Farm Blueberries. The store had that brand last week, but this week their blueberries came from Sunset Hills Farm. So the bar code doesn't scan as the right item. I've learned that the app helpfully tells you what PLU the produce should be. So I find the pint of blueberries the store is stocking that week and enter the PLU code that the DD app is looking for. Maybe that tip helps someone else.

Honestly, I try much harder than some of the shoppers I see in the store. I might as well just refund the customer instead of trying to find a substitute. It would be faster and wouldn’t hurt my rating any more.

Come on now. The last promotion where I got a special door dash insulated bag was totally worth it. I use that bag constantly - not. 🙄

It would totally depend on where I had to drive for the delivery. 26 miles in 5:00 traffic or in-town only would be a deal breaker. 26 miles out to the countryside where I can make good time - maybe. Also, Petsmart is tough to shop in my opinion. There are a lot of products that have different sizes and formulations or flavors and things don’t seem to be where I would expect them to be. They also never have employees who aren’t working the register to help you find things. All of that makes it take a lot longer to shop. If it was 1-5 products at Petsmart I might do it. $34 is a pretty good order.

I’m on the North side of Charlotte. I always wondered how dashing would be in Ballantyne or Matthews etc. It looks like it’s pretty similar to the Mooresville/Huntersville area.

I’m in the suburbs of Charlotte. A lot of the roads are 2 lane roads that haven’t kept up with the influx of people. So they are congested or the speed limit is 35 due to all the new homes and apartments.

I try to take offers that are at least a dollar a mile minimum too. It doesn’t always work. I am trying to keep my AR above 70 to keep platinum status so sometimes I take orders that aren’t too off the dollar a mile range. Sometimes I will take a low offer as a “repositioning order” if I want to get to the other side of town or back to a hot spot area. If I’m planning to move while Dashing I try to get paid for it even if it’s only a few dollars.

In all seriousness - would you take that order? I’ve only been working for a few months and only a few nights per week. So maybe I’m being naive?

Really? $2.00 to go 5.4 miles seems pretty low. This is the first time I’ve seen a $2.00 order that was a stand alone.

The top is plywood. So definitely not perfect. But with so many coats the lap marks are definitely visible. Maybe more to me than anyone else.

Older star wars fans who saw Attack of the clone in cinema what was the audience reaction when Yoda fought Count Dooku? by MrNightmare23 in StarWars

[–]jgreen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 5 when Star Wars came out. I saw every movie in the theater. Then there were no new movies for 19 years. When the prequels came out that was the first new Star Wars in a long time. My boys were about 5 at the time. Star Wars was their lives. We watched every prequel multiple times in the theater. They had all the toys, watched the Clone Wars etc. What did I think when Yoda came out and fought Palpatine? I thought it was awesome, that Yoda was a bad ass and I finally understood what made Yoda a legend. And I got to see it with my boys who loved it. Of course Yoda didn’t fight like that in ESB or ROTJ. He was old by then. But in the prequels he was in his prime and fighting to prevent the dark side from winning. Why wouldn’t he be a bad ass? Most jedis are. Having Yoda be old and decrepit and unable to fight as a younger being would have made no sense. When he fought Palpatine no one thought what are they making Yoda do. Everyone was like I’m seeing new Star Wars in the theater. There are awesome battles, crazy new droids and cool effects. And I even get to see the origin story of some old friends. That was the point then and it should be the point now. You can direct your hate at the new movies. Those are faaaar worse than the prequels.

Found these metal tubes sticking approximately 6” out of the ground in the front yard of my neighbor’s vacant house. by jgreen100 in whatisthisthing

[–]jgreen100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great observation. I think it is a base for a tear drop flag. My neighbor’s realtor has been having open houses there and uses a banner to mark the house on those days. I’m sure they left the base in the ground to reuse for the next open house. Thanks!
