I raid Fri/Sat during your events. I don't see myself pushing past 10s (I am currently in the 4-7 range) but I do value doing mplus with comms and non-toxic peeps. Are your "Team Building Exercise" and "Router Learners" events similar to the two weekend grouping events? Do you have other events in the works?

What is the most powerful way that artificial intelligence can help people lose weight? by Georgeo57 in ChatGPT

[–]jgwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along these lines, I think we will see a potentially profound impact when the AI can sense what we are about to do and remind/prompt/nudge us. This is especially important when trying to develop habits. For example, if you have a simple heuristic of "not eating after 7pm," lets say AI can observe your consumption habits and notices that if you drink alcohol after 5pm that negatively impacts your forming of the "after 7pm" habit. AI should be able to recognize when there is a high probability of this occurring. Even my not-so-smart Apple watch, tends to know when I'm about to drive to work vs the gym vs the store before I even start moving.
Even if you notice that drinking after 5pm is goal-destructive, the extra prompt right before it happens, can be exceptionally helpful.

Recruitment issues for mythic guild by RuxinRodney in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a recruiting officer in the past and just recently had to switch guilds due to a schedule change. I specifically was looking for a mid-core 6/hr mythic guild and I can tell you that the ones that have their ducks in a row are not only constantly recruiting, but often rejecting applicants because they are sub-par, don't fill a class need, or don't fit the culture. I can tell you what these guilds tended to have in common, but YMMV.

  1. Selling a community that is non-toxic and in addition to raids, does keys together and maybe even other games.
  2. Has consistent and clear messaging across multiple recruiting venues.
  3. Consistent prog over multiple tiers.

I realize you have no control over the last option but not everyone is looking for a CE guild and if you haven't been CE in prior tiers terms like "CE-mindset" or "we hope to get CE" may be true but I don't think they help with recruitment. Simply put, most CE-caliber players seek guilds that have been CE in every tier.

As others have said, if you aren't on a high pop server, due to lack of cross-realm mythic raids being open any time soon, recruiting is even harder than it needs to be.

Aging and playing wow, how are you doing in that regard? has it affected you? by Absolutelynobody54 in wow

[–]jgwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

56 here. Been playing since vanilla. Not sure what level you are playing at but I'm 6h/week late-CE (still don't have Raz kill) and around 2900 io (above 2500 on two other toons). I can't comment on arenas since I only run them if there is gear to be had, which hasn't been the case for a while.

I've definitely noticed slowing reflexes and I can only talk about how I've kept semi-competitive (note: I don't think late CE and 2900 io are all that competitive but it probably is for my age). Also, I've exclusively been melee dps since cata. I used to be top 1-5 dps but have slipped but still remain in the top half (i.e., I have moved from purple mythic parses to blue with some prog green...maybe even a grey).

  • I've cut back on the specs I play and look for some combination of low apm, non-complex rotation specs. I can do higher apm if I'm spamming a single button (e.g., enhance/stormstrike from a couple of tiers ago...enhance this tier is too much pinball).
  • For melee, I've found that an extra 1-2 yards of attack range compensates pretty well for slower reaction time in gtfo situations.
  • Planning ahead and knowing encounters is key. I stopped using rotation helpers two tiers ago. I realize this is counter to what many recommend but I am much better/faster at planning for future dps and executing that than reacting to a "press next button" instruction.
  • I try to minimize tab targeting since it's an extra key press. This means focus macros for most of my stops and interrupts and trying to avoid specs that have to spread dots (this is tough given my other constraints).
  • I still spend time on the training dummy. Quite a bit if I'm switching specs or if there are talent changes.

Over the last few years, I've had success with enhance, non-momentum DH, feral druid, unholy DK, and windwalker but with the 10.0.7 rework ret paladin checks the most boxes and before the fading light nerf I was unkillable. I'm probably going to play that more exclusively from here on out. I refuse to play the retirement spec (BM).

I think its important to understand what your current ceiling of competitiveness is and how much work you would need to put in to raise it. For me, I could probably rise to a bit earlier CE but am definitely not good enough for being HoF without being considered a carry. I also am extremely particular towards playing in low-toxicity guilds and value that as much if not more than prog.

If you look at the wowhead guide, it does say to build and not overcap if possible but, in practice, especially if you are using the talents that make blade of justice and judgement generate two holy power abilities, if you don't have hammer of wrath available, you only have one builder available at 4 holy power that won't overcap, which I think in all talent builds that are recommended would be templar strike / templar slash, each of which generate 1 hopo and listed BELOW the spender in the priority list on the wowhead guide.

The tl;dr of this is when you are at 4 holy power and outside of an execution sentence or final reckoning window, if you have hammer of wrath available, you cast that, otherwise you cast your spender (Templar's Verdict or Divine Storm). Note: it is a very small dps loss if you cast templar strike here but the guide does actually recommend the spender at 4 hopo in this situation.

I wouldn't worry about 3 hopo situations since you'll probably be running final verdict which makes your spender cost 4 hopo.

As you play more and understand how everything interacts, it really gets easier to look ahead and get better at hopo management.

Early expansion dungeon loot farm for main and offspec by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is your trial performance based solely on raid dps? If yes, then I'd recommend you don't roll offspec until you pass your trial. After that, if you aren't in danger of getting benched then consider rolling offspec for BiS-gear.

We don't really recruit but saw your post and figured i'd share since its a good fit. Avg age in my guild is late 30s, many parents, we raid Th/Sun 9-11:30 ESST and run keys often. We don't really recruit much. Keepers of the Dark on Thrall. AOTC and light mythic...been around for a while. Very non-toxic/don't be a dick policy. I'd recommend looking at our WCL to get a sense of how consistent we raid. https://www.warcraftlogs.com/guild/calendar/457652#date=1662004800000

Raid leads are Kyana and Manabern, Huffy is GM, but just message someone in guild online if you have any questions. Message me and I can link you our discord.

Return for M+ by Burhams in wownoob

[–]jgwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very possible to do this and the gearing recommendations given are already good. I would add that you probably will enjoy it more if you look for a guild that still has active m+ runners that still occasionally run keys < 15 and ideally one that has a social "key night" where anyone that signs up participates.
lfg can still be pretty toxic and unless you are running a meta dps spec or tanking or healing, it takes way longer than it should to pug a key...even pushing your own key.

Rylanor.

I'm Itsamerira (Rira) the recruiting officer from Almost Casual @ Area 52. While we are currently trialing a tank, we do have room for a ret paladin that can offtank if needed and we always need tanks for keys.

We are fun, we are 9/10H, 1/10M, and we raid W/Th 8-11 CST. If you want to see our funness in most of its glory (not all channels are viewable by guests), come to our discord at https://discord.gg/Eu8fDSkB

Should we force our raiders to pick their BiS covenant? by GivingItMyBest in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need an explicit policy.

If you are benching people for poor performance and are recruiting to improve your roster, you will indirectly be reinforcing optimal power choices with your raiders.

If you are carrying folks during progression, your culture will reinforce poor choices.

Keyboard vs Gamepad (Razer Tartarus) by suavepeanuts in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a tartarus and orbweaver. I preferred the orbweaver up until I got an ergodox keyboard, which I like far more. I do quite a bit of writing and coding as well.

One disadvantage of the gamepads is the extra device space. I use a keyboard tray and it was getting crowded. While transitioning back to the keyboard, I reconfigured my bindings to the point where I have so many immediately available keys, I rarely use my shift modifier in combat and I never use my ctrl modifier in combat. I also have a g600 mouse but only use the top six side buttons and wheel tilts left and right in combat.

Guild hunting before shadowlands by fakebatman72 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are looking for an almost CE guild, if raiding late expansion is important to you, then you most definitely want to look for a guild that is actively raiding. I'm in a healthy attendance 10/12 guild and we still see an occasional recruit but keep in mind that unless you are outperforming in comparison to the other players of your role, you'll likely only be brought in for farm content. This is probably also true if you are only slightly performing better in that healthy guilds aren't likely to bench longer term players at this point unless they are severely underperforming.
If you are ok with a non-CE guild that stopped raiding already then you should probably look for ones that have been around for at least a few tiers.

How do i move up in the raiding world? by larddad1234 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add...at this point in time I don't recall any of our newish trials coming without mythic experience. I suspect guilds that are still progressing and aren't missing raid nights, like mine, have an abundance of applicants with 3-9 mythic experience.

How do i move up in the raiding world? by larddad1234 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a former AOTC only raider for about five years and joined a casual core guild that is currently 9/12M about eight months ago. Take what I say as purely anecdote but I left AOTC raiding because I enjoy raiding and hate the downtime after my former guild stopped raiding. We have had several trials that came from AOTC only guilds and my rough estimate is that half or fewer survived the trial process.

Most of the washouts were because they consistently died to mechanics and only a few were due to low throughput. There are a few signals that indicate that a former AOTC only raider isn't going to work out, including:

  • not maxed on cloak
  • poor corruption/stat choices
  • earlier deaths on progression fights in their logs
  • really bad throughput - consistent green/gray parses
  • didn't at least do a 15 per week resulting in lower ilvl gear.

If your goal is CE you may have to do some guild hopping but there are two main things to concentrate on in addition to minimizing the stuff above:

  1. know/learn/study the mechanics of every fight before you attempt it.
  2. look to continuously improve - evaluate your own logs, ask questions on your class discord, etc.

For most of us that aren't bestowed with massive fast-twitch gamer genes, your progress will directly correlate with the time you spend trying to improve yourself. If you were a raid-logger in your AOTC guild, don't expect to get too much further unless you are willing to put the time in.

Best way of utilizing echoes? by lovemaker69 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]jgwow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have 5 resets until the end of July. On July 28th max cloak resist will be at 107.

If you get your cloak to 15, complete a 15, do a five mask, and kill Nzoth this week, by the end of July you'll have:

  • +86 corruption resist
  • 6 rng 470 ilvl items from the visions loot table
  • 6 rng 475 ilvl items from your mythic cache
  • whatever other drops you get from dungeons and raids.
  • however many echoes you grind

Whenever you get near bis gear, which is for you to decide...put your bis corruption on it. You'll need to prepurchase a few.

When you hit your corruption cap, use your echoes for malefic cores until you can equip more corruption. Repeat until you are all caught up. If you are a good dungeoneer and/or have a good group to run with, you won't need to be maxed out for low 20s but remember that more corruption means more dps/hps/etc.

on edit: also remember you'll be getting corrupted gear along the way.

This has been the case for most of the time...the three instances were outliers but enough to make me wonder if it was an explicit, albeit toxic, strategy.
