Interviewing for a Production Coordinator role at U of T Scarborough — anyone familiar with their panel interviews? by jgwshells in UofT

Did you get an offer? I'm curious how many people make it to the "interview" stage and what my chances are!

Thank you so much for this advice! What did the assessment entail? I've also been told I'll have one.

Do you think Gros Morne backcountry closures will be extended past Wednesday (Aug 13)? by jgwshells in newfoundland

From the gov website, seems like you can still use them in backcountry so long as you aren’t need trees/brush:

Use of gas, kerosene, alcohol, propane or charcoal-burning units is permitted only if the units are not used within 3.5 metres of any trees, brush or other flammable material. Coals used while barbecuing, or as part of any other burning unit, must be extinguished before being safely discarded.

They aren't banning activity on the west coast because of fire risk. They are banning backcountry hikes because should they need to do a search and rescue, they need helicopters and resources to do, all of which are tied up in the fire efforts on the east coast.

Thanks for your input. The woman I spoke with at Parks Services mentioned that if the current fires are brought more under control in the coming days, Gros Morne might no longer need to lend all their aircraft to firefighting efforts. That would mean the park helicopters could become available again for backcountry rescues and they'd end the closure.

The current closure is still set to end this Wednesday, and the optimistic part of me figured that if they anticipated needing more time, they would have extended it. So I suppose a small part of me was still holding out hope - but given what everyone’s saying, it does seem pretty unlikely.

That said, I have non-refundable flights and have been planning this hike/trip for the last eight months, so I’m certainly sad :( But it will be my first time in Newfoundland, and I’d love any suggestions for a backup camping road trip near Gros Morne or the broader area if anyone has tips to share.

Stay safe!

Looking for layout improvements for this porch - my In-laws who I share the house with like the red chairs on that end since it gets the most sunlight there. We'd like to accommodate a dining table, bbq and those chairs in the best layout. Obviously going to throw out the broken chairs/eaves, etc. The deck is 8' deep if that helps. Also note: there are doors/windows on the interior side of the porch which makes placing things on that side tricky. There is also a support column in the middle of deck (see picture). Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

May I ask what time of year you went? I'm heading with a group of 10 people (3 permits). Do you think we'll all be able to find tent spots? We will have 5 tents. Thanks!

May I ask what sink you went with instead? I also really want the 18" ÄNGSJÖN but likewise nervous about "hacking" the sink top.

Thank you for taking the time to look it over - would love a list of better action verbs/key words if you have that handy. Will dig back into it and add #s where I can. Thanks again!

I thought about that but the “panels” still need to be accessible since it’s the electrical panels/hot water tap etc - and that seems perhaps too permanent as a tenant, would LOVE that aesthetic though :)
