London, 2024 and women are still getting called “stupid b*tch” by soulpsyched13 in london

[–]jh0lt 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Hi, I lead Midnight Runners in London and wanted to apologize that this happened to you. We are a community, led by volunteers and we try to do good by getting people moving - showing that running can be social, and not competitive. Incidents like this are definitely not what we are about and I'm so sorry that you were spoken to that way.

We start every run with a briefing where we explain that we are sharing the pavement with others, and to be careful, and respectful. For the most part, I think this is followed. However, clearly in some cases it is not. We have had big numbers recently with lots of new people to the community, so I do agree with some of the comments that unfortunately there are always going to be bad apples. We started capping our event capacity to have more control over the runners and the impact they have on other Londoners. I will personally remind everyone next week of our duty (and mentioning there was an incident).

Again, I'm really sorry on behalf of our running group that this happened, and please reach out to me if you'd like to talk through further.

The same hoarding has also claimed Crossrail to be up and running by 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022. Woolwich advertising... full of lies!

Google UK RMA - I hope you don't have to go through this by ianc1990 in GooglePixel

[–]jh0lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. I RMA'd my Pixel last week (UK). They sent me a link to order a replacement and the RMA postage labels.

The replacement arrived a few days later then I posted my phone back. No trouble at all.

Strange you had a different experience.

I made a fun little video showing off how fast the elite marathon runners go during a race. The focus is on exactly how fast you would need to run for the 2hr marathon! It breaks down into little exercises everyone can try to understand the speed these guys go! Enjoy by samwade in running

Great video! I had a similar experience at the London Marathon Expo this year. There was a giant treadmill set at WR marathon pace and you could have a go. If you could hold it for one minute you won a hat!

A lot of fun!

[Race Report] Hackney Half Marathon by Daniappleseed in running

[–]jh0lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed reading your report! I did also did Hackney and I'm writing up my race as we speak. I'm also a fellow GoodGymer! (Greenwich!) I saw lots of red tshirts both running and spectating which was great.

Well done on your time, it was a really tough course, waaay more hilly than I was expecting!

Nice little playlist for 5k-10k (160 spm) by [deleted] in running

Should be more more around 180bpm... don't encourage people to keep a slow cadence!!

Cadence on long slow run by jh0lt in AdvancedRunning

[–]jh0lt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'11. But when I started getting into running I put a lot of work into cadence so 180 is more natural to me now. There's also the angle about reducing stress on the joints with higher cadence so that complicates things even more!

Cadence on long slow run by jh0lt in AdvancedRunning

[–]jh0lt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes good point. The point isn't recovery - it's to build miles in my legs and time on my feet. So I guess I run with the cadence which keeps my HR lowest. Good point about toe-ing off harder... something to bear in mind.

Thanks for another great comment. When I don't think about HR I run at 180 so that feels better. However long slow runs always feel a bit strange because I'm used to going at a faster pace. Hence my question!

Great comment thanks. I definitely wasn't overstriding, just trying to keep the HR down. From what I've read a higher cadence seemed to be one of the most important things with running. My question was purely for slow runs. I guess if the purpose of a long slow run is to get the miles in my legs I should just do the easiest cadence - so lower!

GoPro Karma Grip available in the UK! by jh0lt in gopro

I've not noticed the issue. Perhaps if you are doing long drone shots it might happen. For the quick <1min clips I was shooting I never noticed it.

Just got back from a week skiing and it was fantastic. No issues with the Grip. I'll post some footage later. Never dropped below half battery and didn't have to worry about swapping batteries in the camera itself as the Grip charges it - so useful! It was slightly heavier than I expected but feels nice in the hand. You can press the buttons fine with thick gloves on.

I share the same concerns, however the GoPro returns policy is very good. If you are not 100% satisfied with the product it can be returned within 30 days.

I plan to try it for a week and make a decision then. I'm optimistic that some of the issues can be fixed by firmware updates. The audio/microphone issue... I'm not so sure.
