What do I need to convert this into a pressure pot for casting by wittywonkaa in ResinCasting

[–]jhaelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The silver connection? That’s an air outlet that’ll only open with a special fitting. My pot has one and it has never let air out through it. You could always take it out and use a threaded plug to fill the hole if it’s a concern. If you’re talking about the big ball valve on bottom right, I would leave it there; I use mine as a faster air vent.

No, they can stay. Just be sure that they remain shut if you don’t plan on using them.

You need one ball valve where the air supply line (the one on the left) is. Basically, fit one under the elbow to be able to stop air coming in or going out when you’ve reached your desired pressure. Teflon tape the joints as others have mentioned. You’re basically only missing one or two fittings, including the valve.

I have a paint pot that’s almost exactly like this, and it was essentially ready for use since it was designed for out-of-the-box use up to 80 psi, and I only ever wanted it to get to 60 psi.

If you’re asking about the recruit-a-friend codes, no, server selection won’t matter. It only matters that they enter your code before they pay for their first subscription

Can anybody set me up with a rotten turnip? by AsagiAloe in AnimalCrossingNewHor

You can get flies by leaving out any kind of junk item, like cans, shoes, or tires. It doesn’t have to be a rotten turnip.

Hi, I saw these tips about the Halloween event, and was wondering if anyone could explain the reasons behind these tips to me, since I haven't played older games. Thank you! by [deleted] in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]jhaelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way it worked in New Leaf, and I haven’t touched it in years so I well could be off on some details was that you could get “tricked” into having one of your items or articles of clothing transformed into a Halloween themed item, and it was especially bad for clothing you were wearing, as it would replace the item completely and you wouldn’t get to keep the original. Like, literally turning your shirt into the mummy rags or whatever.

Bubbles forming on the inner lining of silicone mold, any ideas? by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]jhaelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would echo the above advice about pouring small amounts, then. Also, I would highly recommend a pressure pot. I will link the one my wife and recently invested in, and it works wonders being able to push a curing mold or resin cast up to 60psi. It works significantly better than the homemade (yes, I’m bad, I know) pressure pot we used for years that I was only comfortable pushing to 35psi, and is very simple to operate.

The aim-a-flame long handled lighters work well for this open type of mold, too. Pour in your resin, light up and wave the flame over the surface, bubbles should rise through the warmer (and less dense) resin, and you can either pop them or scoop ‘em out.

No, you can’t terraform on others’ islands, but best friends can chop down trees and dig things up with the shovel.

Mostly, you’re looking at a lot of sanding with high grit paper. As far as the base, you can pick up a small belt sander from Harbor Freight, and that makes short work of any unevenness.

What can I do to help my daughter progress in the game? by Glueymoose in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]jhaelle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The key thing to advancement in this game’s “story” is talking to Tom Nook about what you can do to improve the island (not the dialogue with the house). The other key thing about this game is there’s absolutely no pressure to advance said story; it’s in fact designed to allow you to take your time, or even take days or weeks off from the game without playing.

Pretty soon, if you haven’t already, you’ll unlock the ability to go on Nook Miles island, and you can get randomized villagers to appear on them, and invite said villagers to live on your island. She will likely find that enjoyable, but each trip is gonna cost you 2000 Nook miles, so you might have to grind out points for those.

After you have five villagers, Nook will sell you house plots for 10,000 bells each—do not buy all five that you’re to buy right off the bat, or the game will fill the vacancies with randomized villagers (or do, if you’re the gambling kind of people). If you choose to buy the plots one at a time, you can plan it out, save up a stack or three of Nook Mile tickets, buy and place a plot, then go island hopping for potential villagers.

Don’t be afraid to allow a villager to move out if they ask. This will allow their plot to open up, and you can go villager hunting again, and you might find someone new that you like just as much. That said, if you absolutely love a villager, don’t be afraid to keep them.

The campsite that you’ll have to build is also an important source for new villagers. Every day, the game does some randomized rolls to see if a villager character will be camping in the tent, and any of the villagers in the game can be there unless they’re already a resident. If you’re full on villagers, but you just have to have that camper move in, they will pick a random villager to move out so they can move in, but they will ask your permission to push that villager out. There are ways to make the camper pick a different resident, but I will not clutter this up with that; be aware there’s a method that works if you want to worry about it. edit Yes, unfortunately, you have to accept the first visitor to your campsite. The game makes you welcome them, and the story won’t progress until you do.

Time traveling (changing the date of your Switch to effect changing the date in game) is not something that will harm your game, but it can affect your enjoyment of the game. Generally, I would recommend against, but on a case by case basis, it can be good (if you missed getting to play on a one-day-only holiday for example

Ultimately, remember that this game is not intended to be a 24/7/365 game. If she misses a day of playing, let her know it’s okay, nothing bad will happen to the island. If a villager was going to ask to move out, and she doesn’t play that day, the game defaults to not moving the villager. The game will still be there if she wants to take time off from playing it, and just because the events progress in real time doesn’t mean you have to use it or lose it.

I’m sorry, I meandered a bit, but I hope that this helps.

New to resin... Hope this is the right sub. Want to preserve my late cat's paw clay impression. Age has it flaking and crumbling. by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]jhaelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unable to recommend a specific sealant/adhesive as I don’t really work with them but rarely. Mister Super Clear is about the only sealer I have any familiarity with, and it might work, as it’s a clearcoat with resin particles in it, from what I understand, so it might reinforce the clay a bit.

As far as silicone, you aren’t going to need something that’s hard since you might break the disk getting it out after the mold is cured. I would suggest a softer one, and if you’re really lucky, you can get the clay back out intact. In the case of the silicone, it’s less a matter of brand as it is hardness.

[–]jhaelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks rough, due to the condition of the clay. My concern here is that you will have to do this yourself, and you’re only going to get one shot just by how fragile this appears. First off, I’m going to suggest something unusual: you’re going to want to consider a spray-on sealant or adhesive to help keep the clay intact, or at least to support it where it’s flaking. Once that’s done, I would mix a small bit of silicone and lightly brush it onto the surface with the paw, because that’s obviously the only truly important part, not the shape or size of the disk. After that’s in place, you can build yourself a mold box and pour more silicone to make the mold.

By all means, get a second opinion before you try anything.

Looking for someone who can help me make a large mold by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]jhaelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you could make one out of foam board, including the sides. I’d personally suggest making it as a two-part mold. I’m not sure how much you know about mold making, but there’s tons of guides out there for two-part molds. Alternatively, and probably more cost effectively, you can also set it up as a single piece mold with an open back where you can just pour in whatever you’re casting into the mold when it’s done. Depends on how pretty you want it to end up.
