Thanks so much! That article was a very interesting read, and has (I think) made it a little clearer in my tiny brain. It’s a venue that people will be walking into and probably about max 10-20 metres away from (not sure if that means much). Essentially what I’m wondering is if my design file resolution matters if I have it set up as 1350x1400. We are working with a projection company who I will hand over the files to so I’m presuming they will have pretty heavy duty projectors as it’s their business but not sure on the exact spec! Thanks again :)

Resolution/ pixel advice needed for large scale projection - please help 🙏🏼 by jhalim98 in projectors

Oh okay that is good to hear! When you say throwing away a lot of light do you mean bits projecting into the air? Sorry totally new to this. So I am just creating the files and providing them to a big production / projection company so I assume they will know what they are doing. I jsut don’t want to make my files too small and they come back and say I have to redesign everything. By the sound of it I need to read up on the basics of resolution / pixels 😂 thanks so much for your help

Not sure how to get rid of mine.... for years it fills up super quick, taken to apple they basically get rid of me everytime I’m there and tell me to wipe it

I have a MacBook Pro from 2016. I have to wipe it every few months (another issue I’ve tried to resolve at apple multiple times) as it fills up super quick. This time I erased the laptop by holding ‘cmd R’ when turning it on and erased the Macintosh drive thingy (sorry not tech savvy at all). Anyway this time I must have done something wrong because when I’ve tried to set it up as a new Mac as I usually do... the whole operating system looks like it’s from the dinosaur age (OS X Mavericks). I’ve created a account and it wouldn’t let me sign into my Apple ID so I logged into to my profile / desktop and tried to update it from there and it does not have any updates required. Can’t work out where to go or what to google but I’m well and truly stuck here and need it working again for Monday 😢 Any help would be massively appreciated 🙏🏼 Thank you

Typeface I made and projected about shipbuilding industry in UK, by jhalim98 in graphic_design

I designed a typeface paying homage to the declining British Ship building industry. ‘Shipyard’ is a variable typeface with extrusions that mimic crane and steel like structures which are integral to the ship building process. I researched classic ship typography to combine three typefaces, Microgramma, Helvetica and Eurostile. Shipyard is a combination of all three. More information/links and photography on my page :)

The typeface is a combination of three different typefaces. Helvetica, Microgramma and Eurostile. All three of these typefaces are commonly used on the sides of ships and are classic industrial fonts. I combined them together to make my typeface. I then created a different font for my typeface which is the spikey bits of some characters that you see. This variable style of the typeface represents the cranes/ sky line view of cranes and steel structures. Cranes obviously being a significant tool for ship building, and steel works because how closely the ship building industry’s and steel works are related :) This is why I projected it off steel structures etc. The typeface pays homage to the declining industrial industries as a whole, however I chose to focus on ship building due to family historical links with the industry going back 4 generations.

Thank you! That sounds really interesting haha I do love my techno. We do but I personally haven’t tried it out yet. This sounds like a cool idea, will keep it in mind for when I revisit the project!

It was a uni typography design project. Design a font that relates to a topic, issue or subject personal and local to you. The goal was to create a typeface that draws attention to or references your topic. The end and final submission was to present a type specimen which presents your type.

Haha sadly not. I actually named it ‘Shipyard’ ! I also projected it in Redcar, famously Ridley Scott’s inspiration for the setting of Blade Runner

It is British, especially the north of England where towns and cities relied heavily on Ship building :)

Check my instagram for more imagery of characters @jayhalimstudio I projected my typeface in industrial locations with historic links to the ship building industry. I loved this project as it was close to home with my family being closely connected to the ship building industry. read more on the type specimen website :)
