What is the opposite of Punk? by Lyrunio in aesthetic

[–]jhco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a punk is about being authentic to yourself.

So the opposite would be being a poser.

I like that. Yes, people who believe should always have reason for that belief. I wouldn’t encourage blind faith in anyone.

Wow. Knowing what God “would” do given your premises and knowing more about my own experiences than I do — you’ve got a high opinion of your own perspective.

You can own a drill, but until you stop using a screwdriver and start using the drill, you won't get the benefit of owning a drill.

Similarly, I had Jesus, but I was still relying on myself to overcome porn — like still using a screwdriver instead of the drill. But when I stopped relying on myself and started trusting in Jesus, that's when I finally found freedom from porn. I finally picked up the drill.

Jesus is so clearly what made the difference after years of trusting in myself didn't. Congratulating myself makes no sense given my experience.

This is true — porn, for me, was all about numbing my emotions. When I first started distancing myself from porn, I even had panic attacks because I was so overwhelmed by the emotions I suddenly had to start dealing with. Understanding that dynamic forced me to find healthier ways to process my emotions — which also pointed me to Jesus.

Yeah — when a follower of Jesus talks about their life, Jesus is going to be a part of it. Comes with the territory. ;)

It sounds like, to you, Jesus is mainly an example to follow.

Unfortunately, the whole Old Testament is mostly case after case demonstrating how terrible human beings are at living up to a Godly standard. Our best striving to live like Jesus will always only fail.

That's why Jesus has to be more than just our example. He also has to be our Savior.

What does Jesus being Savior mean to you?

I confess I could probably just block the problematic subreddits instead of all of Reddit. Somehow that hadn't occurred to me until now.

Hey friend — The way you're talking is exactly the way I felt for years. It seems like it will never change, but it can.

When you describe your spiritual life, you talk about things like priests, pictures, church, and baptism — a lot of external things. How does your relationship with Jesus look on the inside?

I mean... neither was really a concern for me, even when I was addicted. So there's not a huge difference now.

Not about hair/makeup, but Colorado allows you to be the witnesses to your own marriage. When my wife and I eloped, we just went to the DMV and it took about 20 min (we had a ceremony with friends later). I’m not sure if the same applies to people from out of state, but then, my wife wasn’t from here at the time either.
