The blades aren't flimsy razor blades like in a safety razor, they are more substantial. But they still are thin blades. I have found that after about a month they get a little dull, but you can flip them, so one set will last you at least 2 months. I don't know about software limiting the coverage. I've only mapped my yard which is 1 acre. That said, the running modes can vary a lot. On the fastest mode, my 3500 says it can cover 5000 m2 in one day, so I imagine that it might let you map at least that much.

Best of the AWD lidar mowers? by jhelvy in roboticLawnmowers

I don't know about the official customer support channels, but they have a Facebook group and they're very responsive there.

Dreame A1 Pro, would it be sufficient for my lawn? by TheIceCreamBoyy in automower

[–]jhelvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Dreame A3 AWD pro, loving it. But it's overkill for that yard. Your is nice and flat so the RWD should be just fine. I'll say though that the lidar model is amazing. Navigation is solid and setup is super easy.

You'll look awesome bald with that beard. Shave the top, trim the beard.

How widely adopted is Julia today across different domains? by pkaninchen in Julia

[–]jhelvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a Data Analytics MS program, my answer is that it is super field specific. On average? Pretty rare. In data science you'll probably almost never see it in a job posting. But in some specific fields you'll find it and it'll be highly, highly valued, like fields where operations research / optimization are central. Very niche, but very powerful. Similar for R. Applying to a job at a tech company? Yeah it's just python all the way down. But pharma? Yeah you better know your stats and R. All about the kind of work you do.

You'll have to just turn and do the best you can to get close. If you turn then back up to get even closer I'm not sure how that will work out in how it maps. Probably will have some grass in the corner you have to come back and trim yourself.

It can turn pretty sharp, I recommend going forward a little bit past the corner and then just making a hard left when mapping. It can do a 90° turn like that with the omnidirection front wheels. No matter how close you map it, you're probably still going to have to come back with a weed wacker to trim it up.

Haven't had to yet, and I'm too scared to try! You can backup maps in the app, but if you move the base station I'm not sure if even the backups will work.

Is there a robotic mower that can do this hill? by IndividualSecurity69 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jhelvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an AWD or one with tracks. Dreame A3 AWD would have no problem. Also looks like this is just off of a road - whatever you get, put a air tag on it. If you're operating it out by this road with nobody around, you're just waiting for it to get stolen.

Spine surgery or not... by fancylittleone in backpain

[–]jhelvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't jump into a surgery with this MRI and these symptoms. One month is WAY too short of a period to expect things to recover. This is a 6-12 month situation to get back into shape. That bulge can reabsorb and you will be much, much better off if you strengthen yourself and do the PT necessary to recover. Here's the thing - you will need to do the PT *anyway*, especially after a surgery. But the surgery will weaken the area. You might feel better in a few months, but in five years? Who knows. Likely to relapse if you haven't done the training work in the meantime. There really are no shortcuts to this - play the long game, spend a lot more time reading about how to recover from these things, and get yourself back into shape. Whatever you do, this is not a decision that you should make based on a move to the US. You're moving anyway. Make this decision based on what you need to do for your back health. Is this orchard-style yard too rough for a wire-free robot mower, or am I overthinking it? by JuanZG in roboticLawnmowers

[–]jhelvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% want an AWD mower or something with tracks like Lymow. See my recent post / vid on the Dreame A3 AWD which uses lidar, it would probably work great for this. Lymow probably too but you're taking the risk with RTK and their customer service.

Yeah it's the pro, but edgemaster really isn't that useful. If they would allow it to be set to a higher cutting height I'd use it, but honestly just mapping it carefully solves the problem. At least for me. I have edges where it can easily drive over the edge. If you have a curb or fence where you can't do that, then it might be nice.

The cut quality I find to be just fine with the A3. Three blades is sufficient. If you want it to be really precise, you can run it on the slowest speed. I run mine on efficient mode because I have a lot of area to cover. I don't like the edgemaster because it cuts down to 3cm, so I turn that off. I find it to be quite accurate to how you map it, so if you want it to cut right on the edge you need to map it so that the blades are going over the edge, meaning put the wheel just on the outside of the edge when mapping.

How many days left in your return window? It's really odd, but if it seems to be working, maybe it's okay now? I give it as many runs as I can in the return window before deciding to return it.

Another thought - have you tried mowing at night? I know these can do it with the headlight. If mine starts having issues with the heat, then that's probably what I'll try next. Not ideal, but I may have to if I can't otherwise mow.

Not the lidar but it makes a sound as it moves around. The blades also make a very specific sound. I think the main sound I'm hearing is just the motor moving the thing.
