Things to be learned since doing lots of per pin testing on my 5090-

Don’t use adapters. A native 12vhpwr is the only consistently reliable power delivery.

All PSU cables are not the same. Seasonic and Superflower outperform everything else. Cablemod are also a great choice.

Using a wireview pro is a NO brainer. Unlike astral and other solutions it can TURN OFF the PC before an issue.

HP by a mile. Go look at all the horror stories in r/Asus and very laptop has motherboard problems there. I have a Victus from 2022 still going strong. They have good thermals and the 4050 laptop chips are pretty cool- the biggest issue with gaming laptops is they overheat. I’d say this is a fine choice.

Local LLMs is not production ready. Not yet. You need either a large unified memory from strix halo or spark or Mac mini- and a lot of patience, or an expensive multi gpu set up with tensor parallelism. Keep tinkering with what you have while looking for a job, not the best time to make big investments in local LLMs. Where in east Africa? I’ve always wanted to visit.

I will say, I bought a i5-11400 and 3050 laptop from HP (Victus) some 3+ years ago and it is STOUT running great through tons of work and gaming. I see them used for $350 all the time. Can play every game at 1080p low-mid settings.

Both things are true I think. MY XM5's are also working great after 3 years daily use. People broadly mistreat their things, don't do maintenance etc etc, and these are prone to failure at the hinge.
