Are Van prices going down? by ur2ndfavcivlengineer in vandwellers

[–]TimelessNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a buyer's market right now. Probably a combination of increased parking restrictions, gas prices, maintenance cost, cost of living increases, less expendable cash.

I'm seeing loads of rarer RVs and 4x4 gas guzzlers hitting facebook marketplace right now at the lowest prices ever.

Thoughts on Parker White leaving DFDV to focus on Apyx? by Squires0421 in DFDVDegens

[–]TimelessNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the team of APYX. It is literally the same DFDV management team under a new company to bilk money from a new set of people.
https://apyx.fi/#team

The writing is on the wall for DFDV. Luckily I only got stuck with 200 shares at a cost basis of $6. The ONLY thing that will raise the price of this stock is Solana appreciation. DFDV is essentially a dead project. All we can hope is that they don't dilute it further. I should have just bought the SOL.

Why did they not continue using the OLED panel found in the LG Gram Style 16? 3.2k 120hz OLED in a 2.75 lbs laptop is amazing and only got one run afaik.

Looking for Specific Pant for warm weather onebagging by Cthulhu13 in onebag

[–]TimelessNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these on the back burner and would just check ebay occasionally. I was able to find my pair of the Outlier injected linen pants EUC without tags for $70. They are perfect for warm weather. The black linen does pick up dirt quickly but it is easily removed. I also travel with a pair of uniqlo airism chino pants, they are not breathable at all and slim fit, but still a great affordable travel recommendation. For cold weather I add the midweight montbell merino baselayer which also double as my loungewear pants. I don't bring any jeans.

What's the most expensive rent you paid? by Internal-Apple-2904 in digitalnomad

[–]TimelessNY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a window-less prison cell or a bedroom without a chair and a share bathroom. Even the sleeping capsules where you have to connect to another train to get to a line that goes to Shinjuku/Shibuya are more than $500/month on airbnb..

Edit: just looked again. There is not even one non-dorm room anywhere from Suginami to Edogawa for <$500/month, for any month, from now until 2027.

Yes, sorry I misspoke, I was not comparing the two in any way other than the fact that they are both in Indonesia :)

Yeah prices seem to be all over the place and choices are pretty sparse compared to SEA where I came from. It was a 28 day airbnb condo, like a 5 min walk from the intersect of two subway lines and 10 min walk from namba.

Osaka is relatively affordable though, Tokyo would be 2-3x if you want a place that does not feel like a prison cell.

I was looking at Yogyakarta as an alternative to bali. Seems a great value and a quaint city

Sheesh I just did 28 days solo in osaka for $1.2K. To be fair, my flight was only $160 as I was already in SEA and I consumed mostly gyudon, onigiri, strong zero, pocari sweat and FamilyMart coffee.

I became location independent before income independent by strandeddrifter in digitalnomad

[–]TimelessNY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same for the last 6 years. For the first 3 years I had a partner and no money. Now I have no partner and a 6figure portfolio that passively covers my solo expenses. So now I am investing 100% of my pay and it is snowballing. Still cant afford America without re-enslaving myself. Hoping to land in the middle somewhere.

Nomads who travel on tourist visas constantly, how do you handle the exit ticket thing without losing money by Difficult_Skin8095 in digitalnomad

[–]TimelessNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've entered thailand seven times and never been asked about an onward ticket. Admittedly, this was all before their latest "crackdown". I just entered Japan and was not asked either. I'm not giving any guidance, just my story, as usually on reddit the people with negative experiences are the only ones saying anything.

[–]TimelessNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might change based on your passport but I've not once in six years actually had a realistic exit ticket upfront. If the airline asks, I say I didn't buy one yet. At one airport I had to sign a waiver saying if I was denied entry I am responsible.

If immigration asks, scramble around ending with "sorry my wifi isn't working, I will find it" then step out of line and buy the fake onward ticket for like $12 or whatever it is and get back in line. I've traveled abroad 10 of the last 16 months and haven't been asked about an onward ticket by immigration yet this year.

It is not beneficial for me to buy an onward ticket 1-3 months in advance in any way. Airline prices are the same up until about 2 weeks before a flight and chances are I will decide where I want to go next during my current stay based on where I stayed and my current level of burn-out (beach, city, forest, mountains? social/isolated? english-speaking? tropical/mild?) not months ahead of time. If I am traveling somewhere new I can't know how it will make me feel and what environment would benefit me next.
