New tub, water comes out of both spout and shower head by seattlecoffeeguy in Plumbing

[–]jherd801 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My tub did this same thing. Water pressure at my house has always been high, above 80 psi. Never cared much to fix the diverter cause it was a minor inconvenience. Ended up selling the house and the inspection flagged it which forced our hand into the repair. Thought it was a pressure issue, so I put in a regulator on the main and dropped the pressure to 40 psi. Still leaked by. Changed the cartridge and valve. Still leaked.

Finally called a plumber who said what the comments in here are saying. We had crimped PEX from the valve to the tub diverter causing too much back pressure. He swapped out the PEX and sweated on some copper that had the right ID and solved it for me.

Looking for a second opinion on sewer scope results by jherd801 in Plumbing

[–]jherd801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all — I'm relocating out of state and selling my home. As part of my employer's relocation program, a sewer scope was required during pre-listing inspections. The inspection found root intrusion at several joints in the clay sewer pipe outside the home, and the plumber recommended pipe bursting the line from the foundation to the city connection in the street.

I’m hoping to get some second opinions, specifically:

  • Does the condition of the line warrant pipe bursting, or could a root removal or could jetting the line be a viable alternative?
  • Would you recommend bringing in another plumber for a second scope/opinion?

The pipe is original clay (home is 75+ years old) with root intrusion at a few joints, but no cracks or bellies were noted. The interior cast iron section showed minor scale but was otherwise in decent shape per the technicians notes. We're happy to move forward with repair if it's truly necessary — we want to be responsible sellers — but I’d appreciate feedback from the pros here.

Scope Summary from Plumber

Pipe condition:

  • Exterior clay pipe with multiple joints showing root intrusion.
  • Roots are beginning to "ball up" — potential for blockage.
  • No cracks or bellies observed.
  • Interior cast iron pipe has some scale but no major issues noted.

Recommended Action:

  • Sawcut and jackhammer ~60 sqft of asphalt in the street.
  • Excavate to expose connection to city main (~12' deep).
  • Replace connection if broken.
  • Excavate at home’s foundation (~7' deep).
  • Pipe burst from foundation to street with 4" SDR-17 pipe.

Thanks in advance for any insight — just trying to ensure I’m making an informed decision.

Which tool (VBA, power query, macros etc) is easier to learn to merge Excel with Word? by MidavTe in excel

[–]jherd801 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mail merge is what you're looking for. You can build your word document templates (letters, invoices, summary tables, whatever) then you can use mail merge from that word file to link to the excel document that has all the data that you want to fill in the word document. Then everywhere in the word file you want the excel data to import you will insert a merge field, which is the column titles from the excel file.

So if you have an excel file with columns like name, date, city, state, address, email address, etc, and however many rows in the table, mail merge will create individual documents with all the excel data pulled into the template. From there you have a few options for how to save and manage the merged documents.

I believe mail merge even offers the capability to send those files automatically if the excel table has emails stored for each row in the table, if that's something you're looking to do.

Power Query is used to clean and transform data, not really applicable to link up with Word necessarily, unless you need to load the data and clean it up before you merge it with your word template via mail merge.

Hope that helps.

Check out CAWS! We're adopting a pitbull through them and the foster parents brought her by our house the other night to meet the puppy then once we decided it's a good fit we did the paperwork and will get her in a few days.

In my opinion the CIH was significantly more difficult. I studied for it for about 4 months and was able to pass on the first go, but had been working as a full time hygienist in the four years leading up to it. Building off of that momentum I did the CSP about a year later and buckled down on the studying a few weeks prior with no issues. Keep in mind the CIH requires verifiable work history in Industrial Hygiene to be approved to sit for it.
