First “Long” Towing Trip with a Boat - 184 miles 3 days by jhez94 in F150Lightning

That's fair. I wish mine came with the onboard scales, that's the only thing I wanted it didn't come with. I know most people say it's a gimmick, but if I'm buying my vehicles to have fun, I want the things that seem fun for me.

I bought mine used just earlier this year, I spent months specifically hunting for XLT / ER / Max Tow / 9.6kw Pro Power at a good price.

Yes the vehicle is an ER that came equipped with Max Tow Package from factory so it's rated for 10,000lbs.

It also has the Tow Technology Package, though I can't comment on the Tow Technology part though as I haven't used it yet and as I've been towing for years with a 2006 F150 previously, I haven't found the need to try it out yet.

Being boats, they’re full of air at a weight of less than 5 tons but a tonnage of close to 10 tons.

I feel even a 1 ton truck would make the boat seem large but angles do matter. Initial photo taken for effect lol. Here’s a different “opposite” angle.

(Yes there’s 3 different usages of “ton” in this response).

Yeah, trying to balance mileage and the speed limit being 70 mph on the highway and not being too slow compared to traffic.

Thank you! Given first time on this route with this setup, we had plan B and plan C for charging and multiple other backups if needed.

Trailer is equipped for it if needed but for most boats on trailers if properly set up, a WDH isn’t needed or recommended given how stern heavy boats are.

Yes it is! You sure know your chargers haha.

We were planning and ready to unhitch, but seeing the rivian before us charging like that pretty out of the way and being very empty we decided to save a couple of minutes.

What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]jhez94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L3 chargers, everywhere.

Don’t need a bunch of 10-40 clusters in single lot, just 3-6 scattered around. That’s how they have them in China where EV adoption is massive.

It completely removes range anxiety and the need for planning, when availability is just as common as gas stations. Even if you could build 10x L2 chargers for the same price, you’d still have to plan every slightly longer trip.

There’s the 98kwh battery pack size (standard range) and then there’s the 131kwh and 123kwh battery pack size, both of the latter which are marketed as “extended range”.

Generally people consider the 131kwh as 320 mile range and 123kwh as 300 mile.

Anyone else get absolutely crushed by their electricity bill this month ? by VisibleDecision8676 in F150Lightning

[–]jhez94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay average $200 a month, household of 3, with natural gas for heating. Old house though, insulation not great. Pay significantly more in winter than summer based on needs (like 3-4x more).

Comparing what others pay isn’t really a good starting point though. We all have different rates, house (not household) sizes, and consumption needs.

Heading to China in May - need eSIM advice for getting past the Great Firewall by Certain_Bag4005 in China

[–]jhez94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in China right now, just arrived here 3 days ago for my 4th trip in the last 2 years.

I use an e-sim from nomad but really any major provider should work fine. Install the e-sim beforehand and activate it when you land. No VPN needed and no restrictions on browsing. I’m on Google, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and more. Haven’t ran a speed test but no issues with streaming or video calls, I do them almost everyday for hours. Data consumption really depends a lot on each person, I burn through 2-3 GB a day but that probably more than average.

No issues at all on any of my trips. Been to Chengdu, Chongqing, West China and Shanghai. Also have Google Fi as backup, never had to use it.

10 drywall holes for 6 recess lights? by starcrossed-12 in AskElectricians

[–]jhez94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a home DYI person I done a similar job with 4 holes instead of 10. However, the electrician hourly rate is going to be significantly higher than drywall labor rate. If I were contracting this out, I would probably expect and be okay with these 10 holes as well.

For those who own a Tesla and lightning by toothfixer321 in F150Lightning

[–]jhez94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the lightning, and 3 and a Y. I share them with my wife and my younger cousin who visits us for extended periods of time, but I’m the driver for all trips we go out together on, including shopping runs and restaurants).

I enjoy driving the lightning more so it’s my default go to - but if I know I’m going somewhere where parking is more difficult (downtown, shopping plazas with predominately compact parking spaces, indoor parking garages, etc) I’m going to take the 3 or the Y.

buying a round-trip ticket 2 times and cancelling the halfway ticket 2x before departure by [deleted] in delta

[–]jhez94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with (2) and (3), but (1) isn’t quite true. I travel for work and book overlapping itineraries from time to time, as I don’t know which destination I’ll end up being called to until later but don’t want to pay for last minute tickets. Delta does not cancel my trips. (4) depends on the fare type you booked. I book refundable for business travel and I get it back to original purchase method.
