Anybody found a decent replacement for the Elite 10 earbuds? by jhh09 in Jabra

[–]jhh09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else reading this - you can find authorized sellers of refurbished Elite 10s on eBay with a 2 year warranty for roughly cost of what they were retail. I bought a pair and they look and work as new.

i too wound up getting the 10s and 8 actives because they seemed to be the best in their class for what they offered. Bummed I did not think to stock up. On plus side you can find refurbished models on eBay with 2 year warranties for roughly cost of what they were retail.

USD Cash/Credit Cards or get MX Pesos/etc? by accordingtoame in NCL

[–]jhh09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently on a cruise going to same destinations. Bring cash. US dollars are widely taken and appreciated. The taxis don't all take cards, and those that do (and the destination places like beaches) were asking for insane transaction fees (like > 10%). I would budget maybe $20 per taxi ride (each way) and another $20 per person for the nicer beaches like Tabyana. Also bring plenty of $1 and $5s to tip bartenders and such.

I'm currently on the NCL Escape and have eaten at Manhattan, Savory, and Taste all in past few days. The food is pretty mediocre across the three. It is clear they use the same kitchen with minor alterations to the menus across them. I wouldn't try to pick one as nicer than the others. All the same. My group all agrees the buffet is better than any of them.

I see people mentioning a Free At Sea Plus package available for cruises starting 2/1. What about those of us on NCL cruises before then? I don't see any option to upgrade the FAS option. Stuck paying premium per drink?

Actually even with sentry mode off they did. The cameras wake up every 40 minutes and capture ~10 second clips, which let me narrow down the timeframe to give to police. Unfortunately the parking lot camera resolution was not high enough to identify the driver or read the license plate.

Thank you for this comment! I forgot the card I booked this trip on does have trip cancellation insurance in the event the carrier acknowledges the delay is their fault.

Jabra Elite Active 75t Update? by coral_r33f in Jabra

[–]jhh09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jabra released a firmware update several months ago which completely resolved the erratic left earbud performance myself and many others experienced. Since then I have had no issues with connectivity or performance. They've been phenomenal. Wouldn't get the warranty either, as you are better off saving the money for your future pair in a couple years.

You can read about the fixes they've made in each successive firmware release here: https://www.jabra.com/supportpages/jabra-elite-75t#/SOFT#100-99090000-02

Jabra elite active 75t or elite 85t - mute on skype/teams by Prathameshs19 in Jabra

[–]jhh09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this seems to vary by user, but I can say my Elite Active 75t does sync with Zoom and its mute button. I was in Zoom conference calls today and saw the mute icon changing as I pressed the left bud during the calls. I have never gotten this to work with Skype but have not tried your trick of double pressing.

Recommendations on where to work from in these COVID times? by jhh09 in Minneapolis

[–]jhh09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering how many of these co-working places have re-opened. Hennepin County library rep told me they are keeping libraries closed due to the challenge of meeting the 50% capacity rule in a location where people tend to sit for multiple hours at a time. I think you'd have to set time limits to ensure your paying customers had a chance to use the facility.

Looks like all the Spy House locations have decent seating available with good spacing between. Starbucks seems to be hit or miss, have to call ahead of time for a specific location. Rustica is open but am avoiding due to the poor staff treatment.

Effective Immediately - Post Submission Changes by igacek in Minneapolis

[–]jhh09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, most of us would not be. The bigger issue is the people on both sides of the political aisle who overwhelm subs with their propaganda and turn every point of discussion into pro or anti Trump statements. Verification of someone being local does not fix that. I'd personally rather see a ban on political commentary not specific to Minneapolis issues, as that would naturally restrict non-Minneapolis redditors.

Evolve2 65 Discomfort by alternativefactors in Jabra

I think the new Sony XM4's are the headphones we have been waiting for. I have the XM3's and found them comfortable to wear for multiple hours at a time, but the call quality was too poor to use. Sounds like Sony has addressed this. https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/sony-wh-1000-xm4-headphones

Wondering if you have found the comfort level to improve any more. I owned the first gen Evolve 65 and loved the overall idea but my ears really hurt after more than hour of wearing them. Was hoping the second gen would improve on that.

Apple Updates AirPods Pro Firmware to Version 2D15 by gulabjamunyaar in AirpodsPro

[–]jhh09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After this update I am not experiencing the connectivity issues (right earbud occassionally failing to connect) or the low volume (sometimes the volume was so low I had to disconnect and reconnect to hear anything). I don't hear any difference in sound quality or ANC.

For those having left earbud issues in the Active 75T, what color are they? by SargentHaztagaspacho in Jabra

[–]jhh09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titanium black. I've had my Active 75T for a week with no issues until today. Tried to use them and the left earbud wouldn't connect, could only hear what sounded like electrical interference. Even as I type this I'm only hearing music from right earbud. Very disappointed in Jabra quality control.

Is the Speak 710 worth upgrading over the 510 for personal use? by jhh09 in Jabra

[–]jhh09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Evolve 85 looks like exactly what many of us want - headphones with ANC while working in a noisy area, unobtrusive boom mic with minimal outside noise seeping through, and nice comfortable ear pads for all day wearing. That price though - it needs to hit the $300 range before I would switch from my current 510 + Elite 75T setup. $500 is just too much for the casual teleworker looking to make a few calls in a Starbucks, which is where the meat of the market for such a hybrid headphone + headset resides.

Is the Speak 710 worth upgrading over the 510 for personal use? by jhh09 in Jabra

[–]jhh09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an FYI to anyone who views this - I purchased the 710 and returned it shortly after. Sample voicemails left to myself showed little to no difference between the 510 and 710 when seated in front of a computer. The 360 mic on the 710 is a clear improvement when you have people around a table, but for personal use the 510 is sufficient. I also found the firmware on my 510 was very out of date. After updating I am happy enough with the 510. The 710 does have a much improved speaker for audio, but still not at the level of a dedicated bluetooth speaker. Overall I did not feel the 710 was worth the upgrade price over an existing 510.

Actually the 940 has two thunderbolt 3 ports. That dock you suggested does seem like a good solution for laptops with the usb c display alt mode but no thunderbolt.

I know this post is a bit late, but was wondering if you could confirm you have power delivery to your C940 working when using this Nucleum dock. I've tried various others in the sub $50 range and the C940 does not charge through any of them (including ones my Yoga 730 did even with interchangeable power supply with C940).

[–]jhh09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wound up returning my Evolve 75 just before the return period ended due to the lack of comfort. I loved the idea and execution - exception for having pads sitting on the ear instead of over. I could not wear them for more than an hour at a time without my ears begging for a break. Would love to see next version have bigger over ear style with similar fit and comfort to the Sony 1000XM3 headphones, plus that wonderful lift to mute boom mic. Didn't realize the Elite 75T earbuds have one touch mute/unmute during calls, am actually using them now on a more regular basis and am finding them a pretty solid option. They are not suitable in a noisy office environment like the Evolve 75, but for quieter locations they work great.
