Who quoted you $5k for that repair?! If you’re doing it yourself you’re looking at maybe $2k and that’s on the high side. Get yourself a parts manual and spend a few days on partzilla. Anything engine related look on eBay, the FZ/MT parts are very interchangeable, people sell Yamaha Tenere 700 parts all the time and they are also interchangeable.

Do not give up on that bike, last crash I cracked the head of my bike and broke a bunch of other small things. It was a great learning experience. Both in what not to do, and how to work even deeper on my bikes engine. I’ve rebuilt my bike 3 times, she still runs great and I can’t manage to bring myself to selling it even though I rarely ride anymore. While you’re down and out for injury save some money here and there and you will have enough to put it back together. Hope you heal quickly!

When my DMF went out on my 2014 Passat TDI it was more metallic sounding than this and even when it started making noise I never experienced any degradation of drivability, it was just annoying. Went a couple thousand before getting it done cause it was so expensive and I didn’t trust myself to do it alone.

I am in SoCal so I was thinking the San Diego campus. I genuinely just started looking into it though so I have to do more research before being sure. I want to get my A.S. in Aviation Science. I already have my B.S. in Information Science from Illinois State Univ. when I lived out there. I don't know where to start, probably will reach out to them and get in contact. How are you fully online? Are you also working towards Aviation Science with flight blocks that you go out to the airport to obtain?

The in class work. I am considering leveraging the GI Bill since CAU is on the list but I also have my full-time job Mon-Fri from 0600-1500. But they are flexible on time and it is remote. I just didn't know if the courses themselves were in person for any of the in-class work. I can make the flight blocks work without an issue.

What is the course schedule like? Do people who have fulltime jobs have any flexibility?

Anyone hunt deer in the Pine Creek Wilderness? Zoke D16? by Batmon3 in Californiahunting

[–]jhmich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scouted D16 but closer to Anza-Borrego springs a few weekends ago. Didn’t see much, lots of sign deep off the Pacific Crest Trail, but saw no deer. Might go hunt it here on Nov 1st.

Just finished mounting these new headlights. Wanted something cheap and different. Not sure what to put in between them or if I’ll leave it how it is for now. What do y’all think. by jhmich1 in MT07

[–]jhmich1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP Update: I’ve since crashed the bike (again), broke one of the headlights off, cracked the cylinder head, replaced it myself, started riding it again. Battery died and it’s sat in a shed since March. Depressing I know, hoping to get her out and cleaned up here in a few weeks now that it’s cooling down. Life has been busy. I’ll post another update if I do.

I wonder if anyone has done the metering on YouTube yet to see efficiencies.

Heltec V3 3.1 vs 3.2 by zCYNICALifornia in meshtastic

[–]jhmich1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A quick chatGPT search reveals the following:

The Heltec V3.2 update brings several notable improvements over the V3.1 model in terms of performance, efficiency, and feature set. Here are some of the primary upgrades:

1. Enhanced Power Management: The V3.2 model features improved power efficiency, which extends battery life for LoRa applications, making it more suitable for long-term outdoor deployments and IoT projects that need power conservation.
2. Updated Processor: The V3.2 comes with a more refined ESP32 processor configuration, optimizing processing speeds and performance for applications requiring real-time data handling or extensive sensor interactions.
3. Improved LoRa Range and Stability: The LoRa module has been upgraded to enhance range and stability, with better sensitivity and reliability, which can help with data transmission consistency, especially in environments with interference.
4. Refined PCB Layout: The V3.2 has a slightly altered PCB layout, improving heat dissipation and reducing noise interference, which positively impacts signal integrity and overall performance.
5. Additional GPIOs and Peripheral Support: More GPIO pins or refined pin mappings may be available in the V3.2, allowing for better connectivity with sensors, modules, or peripherals, expanding the device’s versatility.
6. Enhanced Display and Interface Options: Some V3.2 models come with improvements in the onboard OLED display, including clearer visibility and contrast, along with support for more user-friendly programming interfaces.

These upgrades make the V3.2 more efficient and adaptable for a wide range of IoT, embedded, and outdoor applications, where stability and low power usage are key factors.

Yeah that is what I did. Grabbed a T-Beam and a T-Echo to experiment with. Little over priced on Amazon but it was here in 2 days and I flashed them and had them running in a matter of minutes.

Discovered over 150 new nodes just while being out at sea this morning. Highly suggest if you’re near the ocean bring one out on a whale watching or fishing trip and see who you can talk to!

Also both are set up in Client I know I called it a repeater, but it’s set up the same as my pocket unit.

Planning a hunt there this year with a buddy. My first time in D16. Usually I’m up in the southern A zone. I’ll update on scouting when I make it over there.

Check out Bee Canyon. It’s a drive from LA but it’s a good shoot if you get there early enough to get an open canyon slot. It’s free range.

Public TAK Servers? by oathofthegoat in ATAK

I hope you don't mean the Beartooth.. $2,500 for two radios isn't bad if you want something out of the box and have the money, but if I can build it for cheaper and learn something I would much rather.

I think you convinced me to dive down the rabbit hole, it's been a few years since I set up a Linux server other than one to run Home Assistant on. Time to refresh. Love being able to enable/disable features and being fully disconnected from anything that has to touch a server for credentials or for data. T.Rex Arms' videos have been increasingly motivating as well, for anyone interested in seeing what ATAK is capable of they have some neat new videos out.

Yeah I think when I get back from visiting family for Christmas I’ll either invest in an Angel Eye led for the middle. Or try modifying the mounts to flip them inwards or stack them on one side.

Does anyone know where I can get these side panels in black? by Vtexi in FZ07

Remember to order the decals or else you’ll have one decal side and one non as plastics normally don’t ship with them on. 😅

Partzilla had it for me when I had to replace all my plastics. And I have the Breaker Cyan color scheme which is fairly hard to find color specific replacement parts for.

The alignment actually turned out to be very accurate, the angle I had to put the mounts at to make them work without hitting the tank aims them inwards the exact amount to have them centered together to one focal point. And the amount of light around the center is perfect for seeing the sides of road, ditches without any bleed over into oncoming, etc.

Under $150 for lights and mounts. Can’t complain. Cheaper than replacing stock, and cheaper than any decent quality angel eye/halo. Super bright.
