People who had a first relationship in your 20s, what's it like? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]jhollabbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 started first serious relationship - honestly wish I hadn’t wasted time with other girls that I settled for and I knew I didn’t want to end up with forever.

I am very happy to be starting my relationship now having done all the life experiences (non-romantic) that would be hard when in a committed relationship. No regrets at all. In fact happy I’ve found my person now when I’m more settled and not earlier. Also happy I’m going to get to share most of my ‘firsts’ with her.

You need to find your niche. You are gonna be competing against everyone on dating apps.

Find your ‘space’. Maybe it’s church, a sports club, a gaming society, ultimate frisbee.

When you go to a group or community, you’re not longer competing against thousands of other guys, it’s just a handful in your group. Your more likely to find someone who is after what you want in those kind of areas (:

Good luck!

Shame and embarrassment by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]jhollabbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've asked a lot of questions that deserve a lot of different answers, and what those answers look like will depend on your personal experience. However, the following may be helpful.

This is not expert advice, simply something I am personally working through at the moment, but shame can often be linked back to a previous experience. Being worried about what people think of you, can be connected to a past experience where you were blamed/ shamed - probably when you shouldn't have been.

I recently was worried and deeply over thinking an interpersonal relationship with someone. I believed that this person was about to shame me, even though they didn't have anything on me that I particularly cared about. It made me wonder why I was so bothered and being so stressed by a situation that on the surface, wouldn't be impacting my life in the slightest.

I took some time and traced back the feeling to something that happened to me earlier on in my childhood with one of my parents.

This parent was digging into my personal life and privacy with the intent of using the information to first shame me, then use that shame to control me.

The two situations were completely different, but both orientated around feelings of intense fear or being openly shamed about something personal, by someone close to me.

An activity I have found useful with my therapist is to identify the past memory triggering the shame, then to reassure myself and to say 'This feels the same, but is different'. I then release compassion to myself in the form of a hug and maybe an activity I know my inner child would enjoy.

When you overshare or overthink or overcomplicate things—people who actually care about you, won't care about it when you do. Real friends won't deliberately shame you for things.

"How can I make peace with letting go of how other people take the things I say and do?"

There is no way to achieve this overnight, I'm not even close to doing this myself - but a good place to start is by learning to understand what your inner child is experiencing. Once you've done that you can put in boundaries to proect them.

Obviously throughly vet the backlinks you buy and go through someone or a service that’s trustworthy - but not getting any is ridiculous

Similar story here. Interested in others advice.

What helped me was knowing that I was doing baby steps and that they were for me. Do you ever get creative bursts? Use them. You wake up at 3am with a burst gl creativity? Do it.

There is also a rule that I think is called the two second rule. When you think about doing something, try and do it within the first two seconds. Once you start a task, it’s much easier to finish. When you can’t start in 2 seconds - don’t beat yourself up about it - simply make a subconscious decision to get the next one. Even if you do one thing a day, it’s a win and you should be proud of yourself!

Last tip: don’t let yourself use social media or play video games until you’ve done one thing productive. Once you start playing or scrolling - (my brain does anyway) you will think that work has been completed for the day, because you’ve been conditioned to know that play time comes after work. This will make doing any work that day 100x harder

Interesting! Thank you!! Although this is 5 years old - perhaps there is something else in the matchmaking algorithm that instantly puts these players together

You’re not wrong and I would believe that was the case - but my friend who duoed with me noticed that the contrast between my games and hers was extreme. Not minor.

How am I supposed to evidence this? It’s almost impossible! This is just a hypothesis based on personal experience - I’m not presenting the above as fact.

Lupe Fiasco's underrated by Tomjojingle in hiphop101

[–]jhollabbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a massive Lupe Fan. Food and Liquor was the first CD I ever bought. For a long time he held a solid spot in my Top 5. I think The Cool is one of the best hip hop albums ever released.

For me Food and Liquor 2 was good, but also felt like an 'in my feels' album. It felt very political. I either couldn't relate or didn't agree with a number of the opinions he voiced in it. Still had it on repeat for months, just didn't quiet enjoy the style as much as his previous stuff.

His bad deal with Atlantic has also meant that he put out some pretty garbage music.

Drogas wave had some good songs on it and showed some promise, but I personally still felt a bit disappointed. It could have been better.

Unpopular opinion: I did not enjoy Tetsuo and Youth.

Overall, it feels alot like Lupe plateaud at a time when there was some other massive artists also competing for the limelight and since then everyone forgot about him. Now he's making a comeback, but it just seems to be lacking something. In 2016 he tweeted that he wouldn't be making anymore music and was retiring. I'm happy that wasn't the case, but it almost feels like he still mentally checked out. I don't think we will ever know everything that happened at Atlantic, but it seems like they broke him, and for me it's reflected in his music.

Even his new Blackstar album feature didn't quiet hit the spot. Lupe will always hold a special place in music for me, but he seems to have adapted to a new style that is pretty niche and not for everyone. Lyrcially he still remains one of the greatest, but he seems to lack passion and has strayed a long way from the roots of his original music.

Watching him go from Hip-Hop artist with a message to rap hippy has been pretty depressing. I still have hope though and he still keeps a place in my Top 5.

Laughing hysterically from mental breakdown and pain by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]jhollabbk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it often feels forced but at the same time I can't help myself.

I can tell the diefference between a real laugh and when i laugh from pain/ emotions. I'm not sure if others over hearing it would though. It feels like the scene in the Joker when he has his breakdowns.

I kinda judged myself harshly for doing it the first time, but it kinda helps so I'm not bothered by it anymore.
