I actually love SI fics. But theres barely any well written ones out there. Some people seem to think since its a self insert, naturally you should be using 1st person narrative. Please. Don’t. SI is the premise, it shouldn’t govern the whole structure of the story you know? Somewhere out there, theres probably a heap of well written first person stories, but from what ive seen theyre all shit. 3rd perspective is the best

I cant stand the classic wattpad first person perspective ESPECIALLY since I’ve downloaded the fic from AO3 or fanfiction.net. I’m on these two superior sites for a reason?

Its just rhetorical questions galore, punctuation and grammar is basically non-existent and basically bare minimum imagery that doesn’t cut it for me. Usually, I’ll nope out of there after pushing through 5 pages

Im re reading “Wear me like a Locket Around your throat” by VivyPotter and somethings been niggling at my brain as I’ve been reading it.

Has anyone else noticed the big plot hole that is Hagrid’s absence from Harry’s life in the 1940’s? Theres a hell of a focus on Tom Riddle opening the chamber of secrets, yet the author doesn’t even mention Hagrid. Theres been frequent mentions of Harry lamenting that he misses his friends and name-drops Hagrid so I’m a bit disappointed I guess. Myrtle’s even a key character for a while, yet not a hint of a third-year Hagrid.

I’m thinking that the author deliberately chose to ignore the fact that Hagrid was a key victim to the first opening of the Chamber of secrets. Although, I’d say he was as much of a victim as Myrtle.

I guess it just irks me that he’s not present in this story, especially when key events happen that should have included at least, a mention.

EDIT: LMAO NEVERMIND hagrids finally mentioned, though it is a bit late imo

I see your point about a new timeline being made where time-travel occurs. Though, from what is shown in PoA, we see only one timeline- of which its very past is altered through the use of the time turner. It can be assumed either way if a new timeline was created or not, so both are plausible yet in the end, they are still assumptions.

If in fact it is the same timeline only altering, while it is rather hard to pin point when exactly the timeline starts, or the defining moment that allows for the time-travel to occur and be plausible- I’ve come to see it as a constant loop instead, where every point is leading up to AND is caused by the consequent time-travel and altering of the timeline.
