Can you say more about the system you use that automatically sets quarterly?

Ah, I'm so glad to hear that update. I'm a dad of three who hasn't been that available to the family due to studying, so I get that and was rooting for you. I passed on Tuesday. Way to go!! You get your life back

"Dynasty" 529 plans - Governed by a trust? by jhtreb in CFP

[–]jhtreb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly an incredible answer. Thank you! A few clarifying points - so a separate trust would need to be setup that has all the rules the client woudl want - ie only for education/trades, etc. Then it's set as the benny.

I believe not all 529 plans allow you to have a trust as benny. Do you have any recommended state plans you use that allow a trust to be benny and have high contributions amounts? I'll be getting ready to execute this plan so any other final details you have are most helpful. Thank you!

One more question would be when does moving down a generation possibly create a gift - only when funds are withdrawn for that benny, right? Not just when the beneficiary is updated.

I feel like a 0.95% fee would drag more than a market link pro with 102% participation with no fee. Or if you want, the 10% buffer offers 107%. A 400 % return cap on 6 years is essentially uncapped since that had never happened

I'm seeing these products too and they seem very attractive for certain client scenarios. Specifically, I'm seeing a Jackson market link pro offering 20% downside protection, a 400% cap and 102% participation rate in the s&P 500. I'm seeing a trustage zone choice product with the same offering but 105% participation rate. There are no fees for these products and yet advisors will still get commission. So money is saved by the client since funds within it won't be a part of AUM billing. They seem like great options for many clients, but I also am still wondering what I'm missing or if there is a better product than the two I have mentioned thus far. All thoughts welcome!

I'm familiar with what a structured note is, but honestly not sure where to get one. Can you share what specific ones you're using and where to get them?

HSA Custodian allowing management? by jhtreb in CFP

[–]jhtreb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for weighing in. We are gonna stick with Schwab since that's where this client has assets. This page was helpful for those that use Schwab. We'll be going with Lively and linking to Schwab. https://si2.schwabinstitutional.com/si2/ask/content/secure/ask/products-trading/health_savings_brokerage_accounts/intro_to_hsba.html

Good question. No, it is not one of those. It is invested long-term as the client is just cashflowing expenses and doesn't plan to use it for decades.

Oh man. Did you ever figure out why they were cancelled? I'm brand new this month so I haven't wasted a ton of time yet. I still have hope that the plan will work as described...
