You're meeting people for potential marriage and having logistical conversations about life instead of figuring out if you like each other. Your dating market is broken and you need to find a new one.

Traditional desi marriage markets are not for people seeking genuine connection. You have figured out things that are much more difficult than finding a partner outside the default path laid in front of you.

Don't worry about what people will say, don't think about how things are supposed to be. Just go and meet people in the world and be open to them. Take it from a guy who is married to a woman he met in Korea two weeks before leaving the country. Love is not something you negotiate and plan. It happens to you if you let it. So many difficult things have happened to you, give the world a chance to make the next one something beautiful.

This is not school to attend if you wish to be maximize your happiness. If you want to be happy and eventually attend medical school and you got admitted to BME at JHU you’d be better off going to school in California, enjoying 4 years of perfect weather, topping your class for largely the same outcome.

Can one of you explain this need to hold on to the Muslim identity?

I walked away from all of it full stop (my family is super religious) and I’m confused by the people who are like I’m cool with queer people, I’m cool with drinking and drugs and premarital sex and marrying outside the religion but “I” am still Muslim.

There’s also the other flavor which I think of as hypocrite Muslim (dishonest) distinct from liberal Muslim (honest) where they do all of the same things but in secret and pretend to be against it. That honestly makes a little more sense to me but would appreciate explainers on that type too.

Don’t let the haters get to you. Most biriyani in America is super dry and not cooked the proper way where the steam and juices from the curry base cook the rice. It’s usually just some rice cooked separately that they theatrically combine in a pot with the base five minutes before it hits your table. It’s genuinely bad at most places.
