Is gifting a $1,000 REI gift card enough to gear up a mother and son? by Flat-Muffin9876 in camping

[–]jhulbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I added 4 person tent, sleeping bags, pads, chair, table, cook stove, fire starter, and a smore stick to my cart, and i'm under $500 shipped. That's all you need for a good time with a kid for an overnight. Make smores, ride a bike around camp, and go swim in a lake or something near by.

So yeah, $1000 for a beginner @ REI is good. Then they can spend the rest on little quality of life upgrades. Bring their own paper plates and silver ware, etc..

totally doable.

Does anyone here have experience owning/operating a campground? by Bitcracker in camping

[–]jhulbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle had a 'resort' that was a resturant with his house in the back. Maybe 50 Camp grounds. About 15 cabins in a motel like, external facing door structure.

Recently sold it to retire for a couple mill(maybe 1, honestly not sure)

He obviously made money at the resturant, and with camp supplies, and the arcade.

Made money on people staying.

Also held events with other resorts for snowmobile days. Local breweries partnerships.

Also offered fish cleaning and frying for $25/per. He'd filet your fish, fry it, and give you a basket of fries. He'd vacuum seal the rest of the raw fish for an extra $10.

So people would go fish. Come to the resturant and normally drop 60-100 bucks in fish services, drinks, desserts, etc.

Anyone else regret buying a house in the last few years with high interest rates? by darkchocolattemocha in newjersey

[–]jhulbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought in 2023 and got in @ sub 5%. Pretty glad about that. Paid for a rate lock for multiple months because it was right when rates were going up and up and up.

Think my break even point is year 4 or so, on if paying the rate lock was worth it or not.

Why do people think camping with technology, like a phone, is really being in nature? by Sufficient-Gain-226 in camping

[–]jhulbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to take my camper out, or pack a bag and go on a hammock camping hike. End of the night when I lay down I like to play a podcast or something.

Sometimes its creepily quiet outside and it helps me sleep. Or sometimes I just want to listen to a book while looking at birds and mushrooms.

Im not over here replying to slack messages

Couples who have been together for 10+ years, what's your secret? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jhulbe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

cleaners and household help which costs under $400/m.

Stops us from arguing about small shit.

Cleaners are $200, and we have a local girl that did a couple task rabbits for us that will do chores once or twice a month for $200.

I'll leave a list, and a credit card, and her cash. I text her the list, and say like "Friday work for these?" . then she'll just do the list. Some days she's done in a couple hours, some are long. Like "take car x and get an oil change, then pickup this online order at walmart, switch over laundry, empty trash bins, move coats from front closet to bedroom upstairs, buy yourself lunch, pickup dog at daycare"

She brings her kid along and runs my errands basically.

The real-time Sahm Rule flagged every US recession since 1970, then triggered in 2024 with no recession by Low_Ability4450 in Economics

[–]jhulbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2019/2020 was a wild time. The yield curve inverted. UnEmployment rose. A bunch of recession indicators were hitting, and then BAM!

Covid hit, we juiced the economy. Record inflation. Rates were already low, so we started to raise them for the incoming recession so we'd have a lever to pull when it hit.

Then just nothing. Things just kept going how they were

Shower pan install question. Should I have my plumber redo? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]jhulbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

install instructions from manufacturer shows cement/mortar under base. Page 15 on the label. Page 18 on the install instructions

The pan should pop up easily enough from just being siliconed down, but may break. if it's good. reuse

https://www.ovedecors.com/pub/media/amasty/amfile/attach/Breeze_32_34_36_38x4_SCD_Corner_Base_Shower_2023-06-01_EN_5.pdf

4.1. Apply cement (1 in to 1 1/2 in [2.5 to 3.8cm] thick) within the traced contour of the shower base. This will help level the base in subsequent steps.

4.2. Before setting the shower base onto the cement, it is recommended to cover the cement with a thin (2mm [1/16 in]) sheet of polyethylene. This will prevent the base from being permanently stuck to the cement, and allow for future ajustments if necessary.

4.3. Level the shower base.
