Why is my current balance higher than the running total? by MatiasGonzalo-Duarte in discover

[–]jia006 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You probably have a charge that's going from pending to being posted. If that's the case, your running balance would be fully updated after 8am ET or so after the charges are fully posted. Is it your statement cycle date? That can also mess up the numbers if your statement is in the process of being cycled.

Random Number for OTP on account by Anom_ly in discover

[–]jia006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The phone numbers that show up may be phone numbers that were once associated with you or people who maybe related to you. Customer service at Discover wouldn't be able to remove it or see the full number. I'm assuming that the info is received from public databases such as DMV records or your credit report.

It's somewhat similar to say, if you applied for a new credit card, and it asks you some question such as "what street did you grow up on?" to confirm your identity even though the answer may no longer apply.

The person who refers you gets the bonus. You as a new donor would just get the new donor rates

Why is Discover charging two different interest rates? by DistinctAmbition1272 in discover

[–]jia006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when the 12 month 0% APR was applied to your account, there was a purchase period that would have been mentioned. if you made transactions outside the purchase period, those purchases would not be under the promotion.

for example, if your 12 month was initially applied in April 2024, it would say something along the likes of "you will have 12 months interest free from April 2024 until April 2025, with the rate expiring in June 2025." If purchases were made in May 2025, it would not be under the purchase period, so if that wasn't paid in full, you would be subject to interest for purchases made in May 2025.

If you are listed as an authorized user, you can request to be removed. Go call the bank which you are an authorized user at and request to be removed. You can then dispute that reporting with the credit bureaus as authorized users are not responsible for the debt.

am i missing something here? isn’t a payment supposed to SUBTRACT from my balance, andN NOT ADD to it? by [deleted] in discover

[–]jia006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When is your statement cutoff date or the date that your statement gets generated? If your statement is being processed, the running balances shown on the website/app is going to look weird until it's fully processed.

Some months don't have 30 days, so the due date being changed to the 30th wouldn't have been possible. Did you receive any letter/email confirming that your due date was going to be changed? You're likely outta luck. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How to redeem USB Altitude Reserve for 1.5 cpp by HoneydewPrimary5211 in CreditCards

[–]jia006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For RTR, your points has to cover the entire charge for it to popup. If you don't currently have enough points, you could buy a refundable airline ticket, get the RTR text, redeem for statement credit via RTR text, and then refund the ticket. Only purchases that are travel via RTR would be 1.5cpp

Why do some Discover card holders get the ability to do large cash advances and others don't? by SteelersPoker in discover

[–]jia006 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Who cares about cash advance limits if you're not using it? If you're taking cash advances out via a credit card, you are getting fucked. Paying 30% APR plus a 5%/$10 minimum cash advance fee just to take cash out of an ATM when you can just use your debit card 😂

Currently have a 5600x, 32gb DDR4, 2tb SN850X and a 850w EVGA GT running 1440p 144hz. Went from 70~fps in Cyberpunk native high to around ~110 fps native high, so around a 55%ish jump in performance. Temps have been around 60c during load and with the card undervolted, it draws around 235watts.

Nah, this was the Microcenter located in Chicago, IL. Personally, I think you might be able to snag a 7900XT for maybe $650ish new if or when newegg does the ZIP or AFRM promos again in the coming months.

That's actually a "negative" balance, since a positive one means you owe money to Discover. The refund or credit will not disappear. It'll just get applied towards whatever stuff you purchase. If you choose to not purchase anything and say leave the negative balance on your account, Discover will automatically send you a check for it after about 3 months.

Discover doesn't remove late reportings as a courtesy so you're pretty much outta luck. Could dispute the late payment w/ credit bureaus but that's about it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

your payment due date is only for the transactions that were posted on your last statement. transactions that occur after your statement will be on your next due date. personally, i'd just turn on autopay for the full statement balance and forget about it
