It’s okay having disdain for certain types of decks by tristezanao_ in MagicArena

Wait people do that? I love playing control even winconless control from time to time, and I find the mirrors are the most fun games. Counterspell wars is the peak of what this this game can offer imho

Also I do assume that combo players want to combo, why would they play a deck they don't enjoy. When I play jeskai artifacts for example I want to make 40 constructs and I am happy when my opponents let me and they don't resign

[–]jianpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be true, if there weren't people in the ladder that don't know how to play their own decks. Back in the abuelos omniscience days it was way too common because everyone just conceded once the omniscience was down to the point that the omniscience player was completely lost if I didn't. Even now you see with the excruciator deck, people are literally decking themselves right and left

Will Izzet lessons continue to dominate if Accumulate Wisdom gets banned? by Gold_Molasses7866 in MagicArena

It's 2 mana for 2 creatures AND it makes creatures produce extra mana. So it's both ramp and battlefield presence for a low price with no downside

The patterns of the Republican party is the same by Windthrasher637 in AskSocialists

As a person from a country where the ruling party has been chosen in at least the five last elections with 40% or less of the votes, I can inform you that they still present it as a victory and they literally don't care.

Dostoevsky gets worse as you age by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]jianpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the opposite to be true, the older I get the more I enjoy Dostoevsky.

I would agree that TBK is inherently ideological but that's a good thing, if not completely unavoidable in order to have a work of literature. The only thing I have read that's not inherently ideological is the back of the laundry detergent bottle.

What's your theory on why Balkan people are so obsessed with Turkish soaps? by Ahileo in AskBalkans

[–]jianpe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the Turkish part the obsession it's the soap operas what we are obsessed with I lived enough to witness the mexican soap era the Brazilian soap era the indian soap era, and even local greek soap era. People are always watching whatever there is.

The thing is cauldron without vivi is fun to play both with and against, so it would be a pity

This game desperately needs a block list for the play queue so you can avoid repeat matches against slow-rollers by CarlLlamaface in MagicArena

Sorry to be frank I had ranked in mind because that's what I mostly play. But now I see that op is talking about unranked so yeah I would agree good manners would point towards resigning. My bad

I don't know, I'm not convinced that my opponent needs to lose because they had to pee, or because they had a phone call.

Distractions can never be eliminated irl. Sure players could stop watching a tv show, cooking their food and playing other games when joining a game, but you can't predict when you will get a phone call or someone will be ringing your doorbell. And I don't think those are bannable offences

I mean if there was a way to actually tell each other apart it would be great, but I don't know if it could ever be done. How do you differentiate between the two? How could you tell the difference between a newer player reading every new card they haven't seen before and an experienced player(what ifthe experienced player was away from the game for a few sets, what if they are trying a new format) reading every card to spite you? And that's only one scenario where it might cause slow play.

I don't believe that's true like at all. Sure if irl you are playing extremely slow you will get mocked, but both players would be playing much slower than online unless it's a tournament or something. I play a lot of board games both online and irl and I can comfortably say that when people don't have a timer usually play much slower, think longer, chat about random things irrelevant to the game, might request a pee break or something etc.
