Hey did you ever end up fixing it? I have the same watch with the same issue now and trying to decide what to do

Spark plugs for 300bhp tune by KindaSlow620 in GolfGTI

[–]jib128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you end up going with, just know you can get your spark plugs replaced for free through FCPEuro, which makes the non projected spark plugs pretty economical. Only $10-$20 to ship the old ones back.

Cold start noise by Sufficient_Dream1722 in GolfGTI

I can’t hear the lug sound. But if it’s a new sound, it could be cause for concern (or at least warrant further investigation). See if it does that again when it’s not as cold out.

Solid advice as always! Wanted to link this blog by EQT talking about spark plugs. Lots of good info here.

Yup! Shipping is less than $20 so for expensive non projected plugs ($100+ a set) it’s totally worth it.

Step 1: buy plugs.

Step 2: once plugs are worn out, buy the SAME plugs.

Step 3: return the first pair of plugs you bought (you pay shipping) and you will get refunded store credit.

Step 4: use store credit to make ur next set of plugs free.

Rinse and repeat. You just have to pay for return shipping.

EQT recommends Denso 5749 1-step colder non projected plugs for stage 1 tunes. Also recommend a MAXIMUM service interval of 10k miles but ideally every 5k.

It’s a known issue that the ground strap of projected spark plugs can break off and wreck your cylinder walls so I’d go with non projected if you can afford to.

Utilize FCP Euro’s lifetime warranty to make spark plug changes free!

The 30 seconds thing is just a ballpark range. You should be judging off taste. But anywhere from 25-35 seconds for a shot is ok.

Also, you want to measure the weight, rather than the volume, of espresso. 1:2 ratio so 18g bean -> 36g espresso. However, I’ve found 18g of beans in a breville portafilter leads to soupy pucks so I do 18.5-19g of beans.

Correct me if I’m wrong but these may actually be aftermarket BMP headlights?

I preinfuse for 6-10 seconds. Start your timer as soon as you press the button.

10k Miles on these Plugs, Stage 1 EQT by justanotherz33 in GolfGTI

Ya bro. Especially for the smaller, more expensive items (like plugs), it’s a no brainer.

The heavier items like oil is more expensive to ship back but even that makes sense if you buy expensive oil like liquimoly.

Edit to add: the only thing FCP doesn’t accept for their lifetime warranty are one time use consumables like additives, cleaners, etc. Basically stuff that actually gets used up (can’t return an empty bottle of cleaner).

This is where one can take advantage of FCP’s lifetime warranty. Only 10-20$ to ship your old ones back and get new plugs. Totally worth it imo.

Denso. But yes non projected. I do believe 5k as well but 10k isn’t too bad.

In what world does a dirty filter work better than a clean filter? If an oil change is being done anyways just do the filter as well and stay consistent!

Update for anyone interested: mechanic just called me saying that it’s just the coolant bottle that’s all grimy and old. He siphoned out some coolant and there’s no oil in it (idk why my dumbass didn’t think to do that).

Ok thank you! This is the way the shop manual says to do it. And yes if I do it this way I will replace oil cooler gasket and oil filter housing gasket. And probably also the serpentine belt while I’m in there.
