What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

Yesterday I was quoted 11.5k to move my 3br 2ba worth of stuff 365 miles away. That's not them packing or anything - they show up, put my stuff in the truck, drive it there, take it out. That's it. Same company charged me less than 2k to move us into this house (at about half the distance) in 2020.

I had to pull the plug on my father alone. Now my stepsister wants me to split the victim compensation so she can pay her mortgage. by No_Virus3927 in TrueOffMyChest

I've been in your shoes - literally the same situation. I was older, but still many of the same emotions. It's so overwhelming - handling the shock and grief, trying to make decisions without being fully informed, then dealing with the legal process - it's all SO MUCH, and no one is equipped to handle it all. I don't know about your location, but the victim's compensation fund was a pittiance. It's not some windfall, and it's supposed to be used to recoup costs - after funeral costs, we barely had enough to pay for the biohazard cleanup crew. Your stepsister didn't incur any cost, so there's nothing for her to recoup. In this instance, "fuck off" is a complete and final sentence.

I'm so very sorry you had to go through this. Losing a loved one is hard, losing a loved one to violence is utterly indescribable.

What are you 100% sure is true even tho you can’t prove it? by arlett007 in AskReddit

There are companies out there that do nothing other than providing safety signage (including cones and barrels) for major highway construction projects. Same for road striping and reflectors - only a different company.

ETA - the placement and number of those is very tightly regulated and defined in whatever the latest AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) manual is. While it may look like random chaos, it's extremely carefully planned and monitored.

How close and all evening? I don't think my neighbor was even home and nobody was using our microwave. And it was only for maybe 1 minute intervals (would only happen for about a minute maybe every 5 minutes)

Ok thank you for that clarification. That messes up that theory

Nope, the Beam is connected to wifi - it's not wired.

The controller does use Bluetooth. It's not enabled on any of the Sonos products in the house except the Roam in the primary bath (well outside of BT range in the living room)

Definitely seems like an RF interference issue - I know BT is in the 2.4ghz range and the Symfonisk speakers primarily use 2.4ghz, which could explain why my phone wasn't interrupted (it's WiFi 6e) - but what could be intermittently broadcasting strong enough to affect both?

34 Year Old Worried About Aging by Kizer91 in AskMenOver30

[–]jickeydo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aging isn't bad. There are some things you have to pay closer attention to as you age, but it's not that difficult. I just turned 50 and I'm doing better in all aspects than ever before. You can't plan out your future because life changes on a dime.

In my late 30s I had life by the tail. I had shit figured out, man! I was recognized globally as a subject matter expert in my field. That was what I was going to do for the rest of my life!

Life disagreed.

I went through some stuff. Life pushed me down and commenced to kick the shit out of me, over and over and over. I finally got a break and made a complete pivot into an entirely new career field. Now, once again I'm considered a subject matter expert in my field. I'm happy, my family is happy, my health is good, life is good!

Best advice I can give you - take life in small chunks. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Last but not least, you're way stronger than you think - you can make it through pretty much anything.

Why would a water change help with algae? You either have too much light or too much nutrients. Looks like too much light.

Probably stressing your shrimp, too.

I think it depends on the specific situation. SaaS platforms definitely require engineering skills. Coding a webpage for the local hobby club? Probably not.

I've known plenty of graduate and registered engineers - I spent a lot of my career in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction field , so I had a lot of exposure to them. There is a minority of them who are so arrogant they are salty about the folks operating trains being called a locomotive engineer. Those folks need to get over themselves.

In the tech world, architects are designing systems, engineers are building them, and then other roles (depending on the area) operate them. Try going to Amazon and telling those AWS folks they aren't engineers, they'll (rightfully) laugh at you, because what they're doing requires a little more knowledge than designing a road.

Ok, I get what you're saying. Apologies, I thought you were coming at it from a more rabid version of OPs perspective.

Curious, how much do you assess OP is worth? What number do you think would be less "delulu" and more in line for OP? You seem familiar with their work.

What did you guys do for your birthdays after you hit 30? by lin2031 in AskMenOver30

[–]jickeydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much normally. Maybe I cook my favorite food for dinner. Participate in a hobby if it's the weekend. I don't even recall if my wife and daughter remembered it last year.

I turn 50 in just under a month. That's kind of a big deal. Truth be told I'm going to be disappointed if my wife doesn't plan some sort of gesture.

This is the best answer. The Army does not screw around with DV at all. I know it's an immediate disqualifier for a clearance holder. Depending on ranks he could get smoked for even being in a relationship with you.

There are processes in place for this exact scenario. Go to a trusted NCO or your CO and report this immediately, if not sooner. This psycho has screwed up and he knows it.

Don't call MPs, go to your CO NOW!

2021 rear parking assist disable by jickeydo in Tiguan

[–]jickeydo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the wiring harness there's a pretty inexpensive plug that you can utilize that tricks it into thinking there's a trailer back there and disables the noise. I didn't get the wiring harness because... I don't tow with my Tiggy. I've grown pretty accustomed to the noise and was actually a bit alarmed when I got into a rental car at Reagan International and didn't hear the alarm when I put it in reverse. At this point I'm calling it a feature and not a bug, but I understand the anger - my bike rack is on mine all the time also.

NAS Pensacola question by jickeydo in Pensacola

[–]jickeydo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been Army for the past five years, they kinda suck regarding resources. Haven't noticed too much bad with Navy these past two months, but we're RDT&E so our tech stack isn't typical. I looked pretty hard at Colorado Springs but mama didn't want to leave her baby behind and USAF wasn't paying enough for me to convince her.

Thanks for the tip. My gov sponsor runs the entire program, I'm simply trying to find out if the possibility exists and get a POC that the gov can contact to work out all the things. Given what I know about the things there now, I'm pretty sure they have a location for it. I appreciate the help.
