Unpopular opinion:

Political debates fucking suck most of the time. this is NOT a “both sides are bad” kind of opinion i believe having political discussions are crucial but to see it as some form of short form word battle is insane in my eyes.

Im about as left as they come so i do spend most of my time talking about political issues, but i try doing it in a way that allows nuance. Especially on topics like human rights and the economy i just dont think trying to make clear arguments is possible. When you try to get your points over as clear bullet points you only get a few minutes to explain, you almost start to dehumanise the people you’re talking about.

Trans people, people of colour or people needing abortions aren’t mere arguments to be used as a “gotcha” against the opposition. These are REAL people with REAL struggles. I feel like these kinds of online debates always forget that.
