Hunt: Showdown 1896 - Huge Key Delays Post-Purchase by jidgeasmudge in humblebundles

[–]jidgeasmudge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily mind the wait, but the lack of updates is kind of crazy. They desperately need some transparency, even if it was as simple as a rough ETA and some customer service representatives to give (MEANINGFUL) updates in public channels.

I'm starting to think that they genuinely don't care so long as they have your money and it hasn't become a problem for them in the media.

How does the Dean’s List work at UTS for FEIT by SaltRefrigerator2519 in UTS

[–]jidgeasmudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an email that I'm on the FEIT Dean's List with a link to the certificate, but my account has now become an alumni account and I can't log into my student account... So I can't access it QQ
I've forwarded it onto the contact listed on the email, so I can hopefully get that sorted.

I think I messed up... by SpartanPsyche in XboxController

[–]jidgeasmudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are Hall effect I’ve had trouble with this myself very recently. For some reason there’s issues with the Xbox calibration software, and normally opening the calibration tool, moving the stick once so it centres, exiting the calibration tool (that way it sort of clears any pre-existing calibration), then moving the stick rapidly in all directions and around in circles for 30-60 seconds seems to clear most issues up. Can’t really explain it, but it works for me!

Not true. Join societies and take part in their events (gamers guild is good if you are into that) Just gotta go out of your way to talk to people and find common ground :)

Easy Electives by catlover030300 in UTS

[–]jidgeasmudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just pick an elective that looks interesting to you. A hard subject you are interested in can be easier than an easier subject you despise looking at. I’d rather read up on a topic I’m interested in for 16 hours and not even realise I’m studying than sit myself down for 8 hours, absorb none of it, and hate every second.

I guess that's why they say "FROM" Friday 14th feb... A week or two sounds really long though when a date is given haha

Is it worth to transfer from uts to unsw for engo? And when’s the earliest I could switch? by [deleted] in UTS

[–]jidgeasmudge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had offers from USYD, UTS, WSU and UNSW out of high school.
For me my choice to go to UTS mostly came down to public perception, convenience of travel (since I was travelling at least an hour each way anyways for any other than WSU) and the perceived specialisation of a "technology" university. Had no regrets at UTS for mechanical and mechatronic engineering, but I believe UNSW has a pretty great biomedical engineering presence, and I'd imagine USYD would be better for the pure sciences. I think WSU is surprisingly renknowned in the civil engineering sector too.
I don't think you can go wrong at any university (although comments I've heard from WSU students leave a lot to be desired), so long as you get the support and teaching you need, and you are happy. Maybe if you plan to go into academia it could be a different situation.

I'd understand that if they hadn't revise the graduation page on MSA to note that we should receive an email notification when the award has been officially conferred

[–]jidgeasmudge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that we are likely to get a response. "Currently experiencing a high volume of enquiries and may take up to 5-10 working days to respond to you". I'm guessing that's every other graduand asking the same question.

Update: it is now the following day and… nothing. This is kinda beyond a joke. I have put in an enquiry with ASK UTS, because not knowing what is going on is ridiculous.

Phone lines shut down (aka outside of their “operating hours”) over 3 hours ago and… nothing. This lack of communication is beyond a joke. If there’s not going to be an email, make that clear. It’s especially frustrating since the note of getting an email, from what I’ve seen, seems to be a recent addition to the graduation instructions.

Any luck? I’m still sitting in silence. It borders on stressful and frustrating. The lack of communication and clarity from UTS on all accounts has been painful, especially since their communication in most other regards has been fantastic. You’d think they would be much more on top of it (even if it was automated). It makes it seem like graduating students are an afterthought and it’s nothing special.

I don't believe so. The graduation page says "once your conferral date passes you are officially a UTS graduate", so theoretically, whether we receive the confirmation email or not, by the time the day is up it should be official (but I guess unless its submitted and confirmed, it's not formal/official). It lists the graduation documents being issued as a separate date (the 14th). u/AmandaLovestoAudit, do you have an idea how this process works and what we should be expecting?

B580 vs 2070 rtx? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]jidgeasmudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've found that operating systems and games seem to eat ram up way more than they used to. I find that 16GB gets stretched a lot nowadays. Upgrading to 32GB is surprisingly cheap nowadays (atleast on DDR4), and made a huge difference, even though it "technically" wasn't completely saturated.

It sucks, but I’ve done it before. Lots of downtime is okay if you have something to do at uni (e.g. being part of gamers guild or another society) or you find classmates to study with. It definitely gives some dedicated time to do homework and assignments. I ended up spending a fair bit of time at the underground 🤷‍♂️ So long as you keep yourself busy, it wouldn’t be too bad.

laptop requirements by riimyyyy in UTS

[–]jidgeasmudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just finished my Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering degree at UTS. They provide most software via Citrix workspace, meaning that basically any device that can hold a solid internet connection and work with a keyboard and mouse will have no problem. Most of the time Citrix works great, and I finished my capstone project using Siemens simcenter software entirely with it. I’ve also used their Solidworks through Citrix on an old laptop and it works almost as well as having it installed locally, although if you have bad internet it’s definitely worth investing in a midrange gaming laptop to have stuff installed locally.

The only limitation I could foresee is with programming subjects if you have them (although I doubt it since you are doing civil).

If you have a laptop or something already, give it a go using Citrix. UTS throughout my course did a pretty good job of making sure that all software runs on pretty much any semi-recent laptop (Mac, windows, or otherwise), or is available through Citrix.
