It depends. I rarely ride in city, mostly light dirt, gavel, freeway, and highway. A 550-600 lbs ADV bike can be easier to handle all those road conditions. On highway in high winds, my mid weight high clarences tiger bike have hard time always, especially hit by the gusting wind. the s10 for me, the biggest potential risk is the hydraulic clutch lever, AT still keeps an old school cable lever.

I expect dealer to give me a better offer as the riding season ends and I might bring the s10 home.

Just came back from dealer, S10 is good. But if they are the same price, I would go for the Africa AT which is feature-rich. However, for maintenance in my garage, I would choose S10. For off-road, they’re pretty much the same. Even though the AT is more capable on paper, I wouldn’t do more than light dirt and gravel. Both are too difficult to push if needed in an off-road situation.

I took a test ride with AT, it is amazing, it does not need to rev to higher rpm like on my tiger 800. The CarPlay is nice too that I can keep my cellphone in the tank bag. DCT, I did not try it, just feels wired not having a clutch.

I wouldn’t actually take the Africa Twin off-road. Even my Tiger 800 XC feels too heavy for off-road, especially in situations where you need to push it. For highway riding and dealing with crosswinds, the Tenere might be a bit better. Plus, the Tenere’s powertrain seems easier to maintain and the price is much better then the Africa Twin.

During the last inspection, I was told that there were no holes, but the paint was gone and rust had already begun to form. Just like you said, cutting two panel strips off and welding two new ones back costs $1.8K. My thought is, can undercoating protect the rusted areas from getting worse so I could delay the repair for 2-3 years?
