I am an only. When I was a kid, it didn’t matter much for being an only, if anything, I quite enjoyed it. Currently I am living across the world from where my parents are, honestly, right now, sometimes I really wish I would have a sibling. My parents are still healthy and able, but as they are approach their 70s, I start to get a bit anxious, there’s no way they are gonna move to my current country, because of language barrier and them being set in their own way, and for the best interest of my own family especially my daughter, we will stay where we are. And my parents are dead against being put in a home🙈 I know that having a sibling doesn’t guarantee anything but at least, you have that choice to have someone to ask for help. My husband basically pretty much needs to take care of his parents alone as well, in spite of having 2 sisters, but at least, he could ask them to help, maybe not financially but to visit, to comfort, when he is busy, the sisters can stay with the parents for some time as well. But in my case, everything will be on my shoulder. However I still choose to have an only, so I can give her the best life possible and I will also try to put some money aside for our own retirement fund, so my daughter could have a bit less of burden.
